Even if Nene, who underwent testicular cancer surgery Jan. 14, must undergo chemotherapy, Nuggets coach George Karl is "hoping" the forward will play again this season.
"I think right now it'd be good for him if he's capable of getting on the court," Karl said this afternoon before the Nuggets faced Memphis. "Playing basketball could be rehabilitative for him."
There wasn't an initial feeling Nene would undergo chemotherapy.
However, doctors have told him it could help down the road if he were to have chemotherapy, and the decision apparently is in Nene's hands.
"There's some aftercare decisions that Nene's evaluating," said Karl, who said Nene is still getting medical opinions. "I don't think he's told us or he's made the decision on what's going to happen. But it's all basically still very good (Nene's outlook). It would be a precautionary situation from what I understand."
Karl wouldn't speculate on when Nene will make his decision, but an answer is likely due in early February.
