ROUTE SHARING

The Web site mapmyride.com allows cyclists to map and share their favorite routes.

The site measures the route's length and elevation gain and can be viewed in map, satellite and hybrid formats. The site can be useful for cyclists who are traveling to a new place and want to try a local's route.

The site bikemap.de is similar, with measurements using the metric system and more routes in Europe.

A mapping site for runners and walkers is mapmyrun.com.

SOCK IT TO ME

* The dilemma: You'd love to find ski socks as comfy and well-performing as your favorite merino-wool base layers.

* The fix: Icebreaker's four styles of ski and snowboard socks, recently released in the U.S.

* Why it works: New Zealand- based Icebreaker has quickly racked up a loyal following for its technical layering pieces made from high-quality merino, with a compulsive attention to detail. Like other ski socks, these have zones of cushioning, extra support and breathability knit in. Unlike other socks, which include a high nylon content, their interior is 100 percent wool.

* Bonus: You can still throw these socks in the dryer; turning them inside out is recommended.

* Get it: $17 to $21, icebreaker.com

PIKES PEAK RACES

Registration for the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon is scheduled for March 12. Last year, the marathon filled up in less than a day (after the original sign-up day was postponed because of overwhelmed servers). Qualifying standards have changed, so be sure to review that information before attempting to sign up.
