How readers would use their rebates

RockyMountainNews.com readers share how they (and their spouses) would spend their rebates:
"I would use this rebate to pay some debt off. We had some medical bills from last year. My husband would love to buy a motorcycle or another guitar. Ain't gonna happen. We don't want the rebate if it is going to be applied as income to our '09 tax returns. If we did get it most of it would probably be saved and some go towards bills."

"I would buy carbon fiber and titanium bicycle parts with the rebate. My wife would spent it on home improvements. The verdict? Home improvements."

My family will not qualify for any rebate, our annual income is simply too high. . . . I decided to give myself a more significant and permanent rebate this very week by refinancing with a 30-year fixed at 5.5 percent. I will save several hundred dollars a month for many years into the future. That will have a more meaningful impact on the family cash-flow that will then likely translate into more consumption and spending than if I qualified for a one-time only rebate."

I can buy a few more tanks of gas.

In some ways the rebate might be practical for those whom have children. But, if your like my wife and I that don't have children. It's not that much of a rebate to be getting all excited about. I figure we will put the money away for a rainy day, or save it until we both are able to cordinate our work schedules to take a vacation.
If Congress really wants to do the American People a genuine favor that gives everyone an equal rebate. They should really consider doing a rebate on the price of gas. Take all taxes off of the price of a gallon of gas for a period of 3 months.
