Wal-Mart donates light bulbs

Wal-Mart has donated 5,000 energy-efficient light bulbs to Greenprint Denver, the city's action plan to improve the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
"It's a great way to get started on energy efficiency in the home," Michele Weingarden, director of Greenprint Denver, said today.
"Each (compact florescent light bulb) reduces about 100 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions each year and saves about $20 a year in energy costs," she said.
Weingarden and Denver City Council President Michael Hancock will join Wal-Mart representatives at 2 p.m. today to formally announce the donation.
Weingarden said Greenprint Denver is partnering with council members to distribute the light bulbs.
Residents should call their City Council representative or check their Web sites to find out how to get a light bulb, she said.
The Greenprint Denver office plans to reach out to city residents in coming months to "engage them in participating in sustainability," she said.
"We plan to go to neighborhoods in a few months with a number of tips on how to green your home and how to green your neighborhood," she said.
