Man to stand trial in restaurant shootout

A man has been ordered to stand trial on charges resulting from a shootout with police at a Vietnamese restaurant Nov. 14.

Phuong Dang, 26, is charged with first-degree assault on a peace officer, first-degree assault, menacing, attempted aggravated robbery and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Dang, who had a shotgun, entered the restaurant in the 1000 block of South Federal Boulevard, intending to rob its patrons, police said.

He was shot and wounded by Denver police officers who were eating lunch at the restaurant. Dang will be arraigned Feb. 28.
