WHAT HAPPENS IN DENVER STAYS IN . . . DENVER
Forbes magazine in its December issue has determined that Denver is "the most lustful city in America."
The criteria (criterium, actually): Denver has 189 percent more over-the- counter contraceptive sales than expected for a city of its size.
Not that Denver doesn't embrace this distinction with gusto, but couldn't those contraceptive sales mean a safe and sensible approach toward . . . you know?
Top five lustful cities, according to the magazine:
* 1. Denver
* 2. San Antonio (tie)
* 2. Portland, Ore. tie)
* 4. Seattle
5. Salt Lake City/Boise, Idaho
A REALLY GREEN SCHOOL
Denver's Slavens Elementary School has been named one of 10 finalists in the "Go Green & Small with 'All' " program, a nationwide search for the most eco-friendly students in the U.S.
In addition to a recycling program, Slavens students participate in park cleanups, native planting events and weeding. The students also have created a school garden with a compost pile.
20,000 students nationwide have participated in the contest.
$5,000 is how much Slavens received, which it will use to buy a new dishwater to reduce the use of Styrofoam plates and cups at the school.
* Note: The winning school, which will receive $50,000, will be announced later this month on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
