A man who sped away from a traffic stop, hit a state patrol vehicle then crashed his car at a gas station near Longmont eluded police after a lengthy foot chase today.
"He's still currently at large," said Colorado State Patrol spokesman Ryan Sullivan. "We have a pretty good idea who it is."
The man, driving a white Volkswagen Jetta, hit speeds of more than 100 miles per hour after a state trooper attempted to pull him over about 11 a.m. for a traffic violation northbound on Interstate 25, at mile marker 235, according to Sullivan.
After fleeing, "he was driving erratically and violating numerous traffic laws," Sullivan said. Along the way, the driver hit a state patrol car, causing minor injury to a trooper.
He exited the freeway at mile marker 240, near Longmont, traveling west on Colorado 119 to Turner Road. He soon crashed his vehicle into another car and fled into surrounding neighborhoods. No one was injured in the car he hit, Sullivan said.
The state patrol, with the assistance of other agencies and K-9 units, pursued the man but lost him in a crowded mobile home park.
"There's so many different places he could have gone," Sullivan said. "He got away for now."
Sullivan couldn't confirm police radio reports that the man was the same as one pursued Monday in another chase.
"It's definitely a possibility," he said.
At some point during the car chase, two passengers bailed out of the vehicle. Both were arrested, according to a state patrol press release.
