Greystone Manor, built in 1916, has seven bedrooms, eight baths and eight fireplaces. "I'm going to miss it," says owner Richard Bard.

Denver entrepreneur Richard Bard is selling a mansion on a 57-acre estate in Evergreen.

Asking price for the estate is $24 million, thought to be the most expensive home currently listed in the Denver area. It's being listed by Rollie Jordan of Kentwood Co.

Bard and his wife founded the Richard H. and Pamela S. Bard Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado at Denver in 1996.

"We actually live in Beaver Creek," Bard said Friday. "We ended up here about two years ago. It is a shame to leave a property like that sitting vacant, so it seemed like a good thing to sell it."

The couple bought the property in 1992 for $1.35 million and have added more than 10,000 square feet of new buildings. When they bought the property, Bard told a friend he wanted a "castle in the woods."

The home, called Greystone Manor, was built in 1916 by Genevieve Phipps, who married and divorced Lawrence Phipps, who made millions at Carnegie Steel. His family owned Highlands Ranch and the Broncos. Phipps served as a U.S. senator from 1919 to 1931.

The Manor House has seven bedrooms, eight baths and eight fireplaces. Over the years, visitors have included Nobel Peace Prize winner Shimon Peres, Groucho Marx and Mae West.

The property is historic, Bard said. "It has glamour, and it is private and secluded. I'm going to miss it. It has been home."
