Rapids acquire defender

The Colorado Rapids have acquired Generation adidas defender Tim Ward and a third-round pick in the 2009 supplemental draft from the Columbus Crew for forward Nicolas Hernandez, the team announced today.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Ward was originally drafted by New York in 2005. He has appeared in 30 first-team games and has recorded three assists in his three-year career. The St. Louis University product has also represented the United States on the U-17, U-18, U-20 and U-23 levels.
During his career with the Rapids, Hernandez produced eight goals and seven assists in 51 games.
