Democratic U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar raised more than $400,000 at his first major fundraiser for his 2010 re-election bid.

The campaign had expected to raise about $100,000, said campaign spokeswoman Lizzie Marsters.

She called the event "a rousing success" in a news release about last Friday's party, hosted by nearly 100 people known in Colorado political circles.

Democratic sponsors included Linda Alvarado, Steve Farber, Cole Finegan, Jim Kelley, Francis Koncilja, Federico Pena, Bruce Oreck, Kristin Robbins, Tom Strickland, Ted Trimpa and Judi Wagner, according to the release.

Among the Republican and unaffiliated sponsors were Stewart Bliss, Bill Coors, Martin Hart, Greg Maffei, Larry Mizel, Blair Richardson and Daniel Ritchie.

Salazar in 1998 became the first Hispanic elected to a statewide office when he won his attorney general's race. He won his first U.S. Senate bid in 2004.

The San Luis Valley native lives in Denver.

This is great news for Colorado citizens. Let’s have some smaller fundraisers so I can attend one in the Denver Area. You are doing a great job for all Colorado people and we will be there on your next election. Thanks KEN, OR US Senator Salazar.

Well, let's see, he's prohibiting natural gas wells on 77,000 acres on the Roan just when we need it most, as global cooling sets in. I'd say he's doing a fine job preserving prairie dog habitat and a horrible job for the humans.

The new senators are not yet in office and the next round is Starting?!?!?!

When do they have time to do the work of the people?

I guess the economy is not as bad as everyone is saying it is for donations like this to come in, or lobbyists are buying votes for the Bailouts. I guess $400,000 to get billions is a good return.

This guy is a joke. Senator do-nothing. He's not a leader. He never gets out in front of anything. Ask the people of Durango who can't get Denver stations via satellite and see how he has taken the lead on that issue. This guy should be sent back to Alamosa.
