Rockies to play 15 spring games in Phoenix

The Rockies on Wednesday got their first glimpse of spring training without the Chicago White Sox in Tucson.

Their 2009 spring training schedule includes 15 games in the Phoenix area, the most the Rockies have played there since 1997, the year before the Arizona Diamondbacks and White Sox began training in Tucson.

With the move of the Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers to the Phoenix area and an effort to ensure there are games between each of the teams training in Arizona, the Rockies will play only four games against the Diamondbacks, two at home and two on the road.

When the Rockies play host to the Indians on March 22, it will mark Cleveland's first game in Tucson since ending a 45-year history of training at Hi Corbett Field in 1992.

The Dodgers, who will be training in Arizona for the first time, will play the Rockies on Feb. 28 and March 26 in Tucson.

The Rockies will begin their spring schedule Feb. 25 against Arizona at Hi Corbett Field, and the Arizona portion of the schedule will end with an April 2 game against the Diamondbacks at Tucson Electric Park.

The rockies better not dog it in spring training like they did last year, or else another horrible april and may are in their future. Course, with matt gone, that will probably happen anyway.

You'd think, being as historically bad as they have been within the division, the Rox would want to play their division rivals more than 12 times. I know when I want to do something that others are doing better than me, I watch them up close to see what it is they are doing that I'm not (their approach, how they handle themselves, their routines, etc.). Really, it's 1st grade logic.

    Also, March 5 @ 1:10pm...GO VINNY!

Once again this shows a lack of planning by the team's management. They might end up being the only (MLB) team in Tucson before long... and by then no other MLB team will want to travel down there for only 1 game! Seriously, I hope they won't have to play spring training home games out of a suitcase for a year or two in Phoenix before they get a field to play on. The owners finally did wake up (and noticed) so they might actually do something about it before it really hurts them - but really, what are the chances?
