Numbers game

9 consecutive times right fielder Brad Hawpe reached base in the Rockies' last two games in San Francisco. He went 4-for-4 with five walks and three runs. The franchise record is 12 by Eric Young from Sept. 19-24, 1993.

Rockies quick links

Much has been made of right-hander Aaron Cook having a 4-2 record with 4.98 ERA in seven starts since pitching three innings in the All-Star Game. And scouts say the sink is missing from Cook's sinker.

But the struggles go back farther than the All-Star Game. Cook was 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA in the seven starts before the break.

He was 4-3 with a 4.50 ERA in the nine starts before the break, including three in which he allowed six earned runs or more.

After going 7-3 with a 2.82 ERA in his first 11 starts, Cook is 8-5 with a 4.70 ERA in the past 16.

YOUNG AGAIN

San Diego right-hander Chris Young, on the disabled list because of a strained right forearm since a 36-pitch inning against the Rockies at Coors Field on Aug. 10, threw 65 pitches of batting practice Wednesday and is in line to return to the rotation Sunday.

"He was good; he felt fine," manager Bud Black said.

ETC.

The Rockies bullpen has compiled a 1.32 ERA and allowed a .141 batting average in 41 innings over the past 12 games. . . . Jhouyls Chacin allowed one run in five innings but had a no-decision in High Single-A Modesto's 5-2 loss to San Jose on Wednesday, denying him a chance to be the organization's first 20-game winner. He was 10-1 at Low Single-A Asheville and is 8-2 with Modesto. He has a chance for a 19th win in Modesto's season finale at Bakersfield on Monday. That would equal the organization record Jeff Francis set in 2004 when he went 13-1 for Double-A Tulsa, 3-2 with Triple-A Colorado Springs and 3-2 with the Rockies. . . . Left fielder Matt Holliday is third in the NL batting race with a .340 average. The defending batting champion, Holliday trails Atlanta's Chipper Jones (.359) and St. Louis' Albert Pujols (.357).. . . . Holliday also is fourth in the NL with .427 on-base percentage. Teammate Brad Hawpe is fifth at .396. . . . Third baseman Ian Stewart his hitting .426 with runners in scoring position, tops among 168 NL players with at least 50 plate appearances with runners in scoring position.
