Former Marine Lance Cpl. Jeff Key stood out among thousands of protesters Wednesday, standing 6 feet, 4 inches, in his dress blue uniform and carrying a trumpet.
Key, 42, will be one of the Iraq Veterans Against the War to meet with a representative of the Barack Obama campaign.
He was one of about 50 demonstrators who marched against the war in military uniform Wednesday. He plans to present a letter calling for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq, full health care benefits to service members and reparations to Iraqi citizens for destruction related to the war.
Key is the president of Iraq Veterans Against the War in Salt Lake City. Key was discharged in 2006 after what he called an "unglorious injury." He injured his abdomen doing heavy lifting. He said he served near the Iranian border in Iraq.
In civilian life he's written a play and heads a nonprofit group called the Mehadi Foundation, which does philanthropic work in Iraq.
