WESTIN — She may have told her son to bloody bullies' noses, but Joe Biden's mom has nary a negative thing to say.

"He's a wonderful man, a wonderful son," said Catherine Biden, the mother of the Democratic Party's vice presidential nominee.

She praised her son this afternoon, saying she was proud of him -- but quickly adding that she's also proud of her three other sons.

In his acceptance speech, Joe Biden credited his mother -- staffers said she goes by "Momma" — by teaching him to stand up to bullies.

"You know, my mom taught her children -- all the children who flocked to our house — that you're defined by your sense of honor and you're redeemed by your loyalty," Biden said in his speech. "She believes that bravery lives in every heart, and her expectation is that it will be summoned. Failure at some point in your life is inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable."

Waiting at the Westin hotel to be transported to Invesco field, Catherine Biden, 91, said she keeps in close touch her son.

Wearing a checkered suit, she signed autographs and chatted with admirers.

"It's a happy family," she said. "That's pretty much all."
