STYLE MATTERS: Her attire: demure, ladylike, appropriate

For Michelle Obama's much awaited DNC speech, she wore a turquoise, three-quarter-sleeve, fitted sheath dress with a modest V-neck line and matching broach. The bottom line: demure and lady-like. Not exactly a wow moment for fashionistas, but appropriate for the occasion.

Obama has been catching heat because she doesn't like to wear pantyhose. We've read that she doesn't wear hose because standing at 5 feet, 11 inches, it's hard to find nylons long enough and she always tears them. She's been quoted as saying that she only wears pantyhose in cold weather and for special occasions.

We are assuming that addressing the DNC is a special occasion and that she was wearing them, but we're not sure. Our suggestion: When attending a function with the G8 crowd, wear hose; when fundraising with the Hollywood elite, bare legs are great.

In case you are pining for her dress, it's by Chicago designer Maria Pinto. Until recently, Pinto was only known to the Bergdorf Goodman crowd, but thanks to Michelle she, too, is becoming a household name.

Really? "Broach?" Don't Evelinda and Judie have copy editors? You "broach" a subject in conversation and use BROOCH if you're talking about a piece of pin-on jewelry. Sadly, this is nothing new. I first encountered this duo during one of their "dress for success" seminars, and was appalled by the spelling and grammar errors in their powerpoint. The Rocky keeps laying off good writers, and keeps these two? Really?
