A 34-year-old man died Monday after a construction truck pulled out in front of him on Interstate 70 near East Vail.
The man, from Hudson, was driving westbound at 4:27 a.m. when his van collided with a fuel truck that was using an emergency turnaround one mile west of the East Vail exit.
The man's name was being withheld until his family is notified.
The fuel truck, driven by a 33-year-old man from Canon City, was part of paving work by the Department of Transportation that has been going on at night all summer.
A third vehicle, driven by a 54-year-old man from Fruita, then collided with the van. The driver of the truck and the third vehicle were taken to Vail Valley Medical Center.
Westbound I-70 was closed from 4:49 to 10 a.m. Traffic was routed onto the frontage road.
