16TH STREET MALL -- U.S. Rep. Charlie Rangel said the party will be united to defeat John McCain by the end of the Democratic National Convention.
The New York Democrat's remarks came during a break from posing for for photos and shaking hands with supporters during a stroll along Denver's 16th Street mall.
Rangel said he couldn't imagine ever being so lucky as to be able to be at the convention where presidential hopeful Barack Obama was to be picked as the party's nominee.
"I'm so excited," he said. "I don't want to have a heart attack."
During his stroll, he was flagged down by Super Delegate Maria Luna, 68, of Manhattan, who was sitting at an outdoor cafe.
Luna and her friend, Helen Morik, kissed him on the cheek.
"We know him very well," Luna said.
The pair said that Rangel isn't shy about meeting his constituents back in home in New York.
"He's a real neighborhood guy," Morik said.

Rangel seems to be either ignoring the memo or simpley did not understand it. When the DNC returned his donation of $100,000.00 dollars the message was clear. Charlie my boy you are a Clinton supporter and on your way out. The extreme left is taking over and all who hold a position that can be replaced by more extremists will happen. There is the door Charlie, out you go.
