ALONG THE 16TH STREET MALL — A manager at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, 15th and Market, bemoaning the trickle of business on the first day of the convention, says, "Everybody's getting fed for free (at private events hosted by lobbyists and donors) so why pay for it? We should start a promotion — $20 off for Republicans!"
Fox-TV conservative talker Bill O'Reilly was heckled Monday evening as he walked along Market Street. "Lots of expletives," one observer said with a smile.
Asked how important this election is to the country, Illinois congressman Rahm Emmanuel smiled and said, "You KNOW how important it is ..." Will Obama win? "We will be fine," he said.
