CAPLIS: A choice that will backfire

Senator Obama needed a home run. Instead, he decided to bunt. And it was foul.

With one bold move he could have energized and united his party. Instead, he has made a mockery of his message of "change" and promises of "unity."

Obama should have put his ego aside, and given Hillary and her 17.5 million voters what they had earned. A real shot at placing the first woman in the White House. Instead, Obama chose a guy who got less than 1 percent of the vote.

There are many good reasons why Joe Biden's two presidential campaigns ended in scandal (1988) and complete rejection by the voters (2008). He has been dishonest, obnoxious and unprincipled.

Voters around the country have made it clear they don't want him in the White House. And those are just the Democrats.

Biden was forced to pull out of the 1988 presidential race in disgrace. It was proven that he had committed multiple acts of plagiarism and had lied to voters about his academic credentials. Sounds like fired CU professor Ward Churchill.

Some say Biden will help Obama on foreign policy. The opposite is true. Biden voted with John McCain on the original Iraq war resolution. That undercuts Obama's main argument. Biden was also wrong about the surge.

Maybe Obama thinks that Biden will help him with Catholics. Tell that to John Kerry.

Most Catholics, like everybody else, vote for the top of the ticket. Lots of Catholics will not vote for a candidate who is pro-choice. Obama is the most radically pro-abortion candidate in our nation's history. He even voted against protecting babies who were born alive after a failed abortion. Besides, Biden, like Obama, is in favor of legalized abortion.

Some say that Biden will serve as a great "attack dog" for Obama. Not exactly. Biden is on record as pushing McCain for the White House (as a running mate for Kerry in 2004). Biden has also proclaimed that Obama is not ready to be president. His sudden change of heart is going to make him look silly.

The selection of Joe Biden is another example of Obama's weakness and bad judgment. As someone who wants to see John McCain become president, all I can say is thank you, Senator Obama.

Hillary Clinton is truly an amazing woman and her ability to put nearly 18-million cracks in that proverbial glass ceiling, was a truly remarkable accomplishment. However, Barack Obama made the right choice in not choosing her as his running mate. Not because she wouldn’t have been a strong, intellectual asset to his campaign, but because she would have simply been more fodder for foolishness from right-wing apparatchiks like you.

We witnessed it throughout the Clinton years in the White House, and throughout the entire primary campaign process. The extreme right-wing bloggers and talk radio hosts like yourself have always loved using this fine woman as your punching bag, and would have obviously loved the opportunity to take a few additional punches.

I anticipate that when the American people come to their senses, and recognize that our nation is in serious trouble. They will vote for a change and that when Barack Obama is sworn in as President he will find a place for Hillary in his administration; a place where she can utilize her expertise, and truly make a difference. And, I hope that that position will be as the leader in charge of re-regulating, reorganizing and revitalizing our national healthcare system
