— Coach Steve Fairchild was pleased with what he saw from the Rams' defense Thursday during a 125-play scrimmage at Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium. "We're still a little inconsistent on the offensive side of the ball," he said. "I would say we're better off right now defensively. We're more ready to play defensively, however, we need improvement on both sides of the ball."

Freshman defensive back Gerard Thomas and senior safety Jake Galusha led the defense with three tackles each. Defensive end Cory Macon had an interception and linebacker John Clark recovered a fumble.

Starting quarterback Billy Farris completed 5-of-7 passes for 38 yards and a 20-yard scoring pass to Kory Sperry. He was intercepted once.

Klay Kubiak, striving to earn the backup position, went 3-for-4 for 18 yards and ran for 14- and 4-yard touchdowns. Freshman Alex Kelly completed 2-of-3 passes for 16 yards.

Gartrell Johnson and Kyle Bell each finished with 21 yards to pace the rushing attack.
