VETERANS WANTED
An open casting call for All My Children seeks an Iraq war veteran to play an injured veteran. The ABC daytime show has created a romantic story line to combine entertainment and a window into the challenges faced after combat, said executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers.
The soap invites veterans to contact the show's New York casting director. The series also is working with a veterans' support group, USA Cares, as well as the military.
The new character, Brot, will be a key figure in a plot that involves a Pine Valley visitor, Army Lt. Taylor Thompson (Beth Ehlers). The role will be shaped around a veteran's experience, possibly including a war-caused disability.
WE ARE THE GIRLS
15 chart-topping female singers join voices Sept. 2 when Just Stand Up hits airwaves and iTunes.
The charity tune, conceived by Antonio ("L.A.") Reid, features Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Fergie, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood.
All sales of the star-studded single will benefit cancer research. The 15 will perform it live on the hourlong Stand Up to Cancer special to air Sept. 5 on ABC, NBC and CBS.
CHATTER
"We're not hiding anything."
CW network officials, calling their decision not to distribute prebroadcast copies of the new series 90210 to television reviewers and reporters "a strategic marketing decision." The show premieres Sept. 2.
COUPLED ON TV
NBC announced that Courtney B. Vance will join NBC's long-running show ER in a multiepisode story arc during the upcoming season (9 p.m. Thursdays, 9News), beginning Sept. 25. Vance will play the role of Russell Banfield, husband of Cate Banfield, played by real-life wife Angela Bassett. ER will mark the first time Vance (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) and Bassett will act together.
