Rockies put Herges on DL, call up Speier

LOS ANGELES The Rockies placed struggling right-handed reliever Matt Herges on the disabled list Wednesday because of lower back sitffness and recalled right-hander Ryan Speier from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
This is the third time Speier has been brought up this season.
Herges has allowed seven runs in 10 appearances since July 21, his season earned run average rising to 5.09. He has appeared in 51 games for the Rockies, fourth on the team behind Manuel Corpas (59), Taylor Buchholz (54) and Brian Fuentes (53).
Speier has gone 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA in 30 appearances with the Rockies this season and has a 2.03 ERA in 11 appearances with Colorado Springs.
