Two national Republican heavyweights, Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, will speak on behalf of their party and the McCain campaign during the critical days of the Democratic National Convention.

Kyl will spend two days in Denver, arriving next Wednesday, Aug. 27, in time to listen to the Democratic vice presidential candidate's speech and hold a press conference to offer the GOP point of view, a spokesman said Tuesday. He'll team up with Pawlenty and also remain visible and vocal for Obama's acceptance speech the next night.

Kyl will be "one of many GOP folks that Sen. McCain is having go to the Democratic convention to offer another point of view, to offer the other side of the story," said spokesman Andrew Wilder.

The national Republican party is bringing in high-profile spokespeople, including Mitt Romney, each night of the DNC to counter the Democratic speeches and events. The party will operate from a war room a few blocks away from the Pepsi Center.

Democratic celebrities also are expected to attend the Republican National Convention a week later, from Sept. 1 to 4, in Minneapolis-St. Paul, to offer their viewpoints.
