Jimmy Carter, John Kerry and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley will be among the speakers at next week's Democratic National Convention, organizers announced Tuesday.

Former Vice President Al Gore also is scheduled to speak at Invesco Field at Mile High on the night Sen. Barack Obama accepts his party's nomination, according to published reports.

The convention will start the first three nights - Aug. 25 to 27 - at 3 p.m., the Democratic National Convention Committee announced. It will end each night at 9 p.m.

No times have been announced for the final night, Aug. 28.

The schedule so far includes dozens of speakers each of the first three nights, from Obama's family to lawmakers past and present.

Thursday's lineup is expected to be considerably pared down. So far the only speakers in addition to Obama are expected to be Gore and Gov. Bill Ritter.

Monday's program will focus on telling Obama's story. His half-sister will speak, along with his brother-in-law and several political allies from his hometown of Chicago, including Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.

The primetime speaker will be Obama's wife, Michelle.

Former President Carter also is scheduled to speak Monday night, as is Jerry Kellman, a mentor to Obama during his days as a community organizer in Chicago.

Tuesday's headliner will be Sen. Hillary Clinton, with the keynote speech by former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner. AFL-CIO President John Sweeney also will talk Tuesday, when the focus is on economic issues.

Wednesday's theme is "Securing America's Future." The still-unnamed vice presidential nominee will be the primetime speaker. Former President Bill Clinton, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Daley and Kerry will speak that night as well.

But you're probably too smart and already know everything anyway so it would be a waste of time.

MarineGrunt: You don't seem to be seeing the difference between being a liar and a hypocrite. A hypocrite is simply somebody that doesn't practice what they preach (a huge number of Americans and probably every single politician that ever existed). If somebody like Gore was elected he would have put in place more green policies while personally creating more CO2 than almost any other individual on the planet. He still would have made a good impact despite being a hypocrite.

A liar, on the other hand, is somebody who will say whatever is needed to get what they want. The WMD in Iraq was essentially a lie used to get us there for whatever true purposes the administration desired. (purposes that presumably would not have been sufficient in and of themselves to convince congress to give him the power to invade Iraq) A liar is a much more dangerous person to get elected, especially liars about national policy (as opposed to their personal sex life).

In that incident a bunch of Republicans were flown in from out of state to block a recount. Still an ugly incident if you ask me. There were lots of voting irregularities in that vote though, with some favoring Republicans and others favoring Democrats. It seems to me that overall it favored Republicans but no matter what it was a very imperfect election they had there in 2000. The RNC will have a POSITIVE economic impact on Minneapolis/St. Paul. Just like the Republicans did in New York, Philadelphia and San Diego before...

I'll grant that Carter was by no means a great president. However, he has really been effective since his presidency. If you doubt his capabilities, try reading one of his many books sometime (written entirely by himself, doesn't need any help other than an editor, unlike many other politicians I can think of -- Bush Jr for starters).

MarineGrunt: "If it is real, you KNOW it is a tactic used by both sides, so lets not get to far a head of ourselves!"

I don't buy your premise. Just because one side does something doesn't mean the other is going to return the favor. For example, when the Republicans were in charge of Congress they threatened to use the 'nuclear option' that would significantly curtail the power of filibusters if the Democrats didn't relent. Since the Democrats have taken the majority in both houses of Congress they have never even threatened to use the nuclear option despite numerous filibusters by the Republicans over all sorts of issues.

Point out one equivalent of a Democrat swift-boat attack. Even moveon.org isn't that obnoxious in comparison.

You can't make a comparison to the current congress because there have been zero judicial appointments by a democrat president that the Republicans have had an opportunity to filibuster. Your example was a poor one, joggle. Congress has always used the filibuster to prevent votes on "regular" business, but the filibuster has rarely been used to block votes on judicial appointments, and certainly not with the frequency of the 109th congress.

As a lifelong Republican, I am truly embarassed at the state of my party. Senator McCain offers absolutely no substance in his arguments with regards to energy, the economy, and the war in Iraq. It is so disheartening to see the party align around issues such as increased offshore drilling and the "success" of the Iraq surge. As a petroleum engineer, I know that offshore drilling has little, if any, impact on solving our energy problems.

While I probably won't switch my party affiliation, I am planning on voting for Obama. I am so tired of the complete failure of the Republican party during the past 8 years. It would be refreshing to actually have an executive branch that is intellectually sound (while I'm not a fan of Obama on many issues, I completely respect his intelligence). Senator McCain is clearly a war hero and should be honored for his service in Vietnam, but he is no position to be leading this country.

Let's bring back some respect to the White House.

Well, let's put it this way, Gore's movie has lies in it. And then there's distortions. Are you familiar with his claim that the Antarctic ice shelf is diminishing, and sure, one piece of it broke off, yet he didn't tell us in the movie that another part of the ice shelf has grown (science backs it up) to where there's basically the same area in total still in place? What about his claim the global temperature continues to rise, yet scientific data (which Gore is obviously no scientist) shows the global average temperature has dropped since the 90's, and has fluctuated over the last century? How many scientists are there that dispute Gore's claims? I'm not sure the exact number, but it's a large portion of the scientific community. How many scientists did Gore cite that now won't back up Gore's claims? Anyway, I can't believe much from someone who claims he invented the internet, which was actually created by the military as a means of easier communication between bases. Bet you didn't know that one either.

It doesn't matter what excuse Clinton gives for avoiding the draft, and you can bring up reasons for it, but in the end, he avoided being drafted because he didn't want to go to Vietnam. Answer this simple question, did Clinton fight in Vietnam? I remember an interview he gave to ABC in the early 90's where he states he didn't believe in the Vietnam war. I have no problem with anyone not believing in the Vietnam war, but where I have a problem is how people try to say so-and-so avoided the draft and they ignore someone in the party they worship doing the same thing.

You don't know who you're talking to. That is one of the more famous misquotes of Al Gore. His original quote is:

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."

    (see http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet... for details)

He did have a hand in passing some key technology bills back in the early 90s and was one of the first people in the Senate to really take an interest in the Internet.

As for Clinton avoiding the draft, I don't have a problem with anybody avoiding the draft for Vietnam. I have a problem with people attacking Kerry for his war record over Bush Jr though.

"How many scientists did Gore cite that now won't back up Gore's claims?"

I don't know, you tell me. I can come up with any question but if you don't have a source with the answer then what's the point of asking?

"What about his claim the global temperature continues to rise, yet scientific data (which Gore is obviously no scientist) shows the global average temperature has dropped since the 90's, and has fluctuated over the last century?"

According to what scientific evidence? Here are some links to actual scientific reports if you want to see the raw data:

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/gra... -- graphs temperature change over time

http://www.nasa.gov/worldbook/global_... -- Nasa's official statement on global warming

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarcti... -- lists the effects of global warming on the Antartic. If you don't trust wikipedia, just follow the sources used in the article.

Please, tell me where you keep coming up with this stuff and I can be more specific about where your sources are wrong.

Sorry joggle, I have a life and I'm not sitting at my computer looking up everything I can to get some version to use to fit my logic. Maybe when I have the time, but I'll go with what I've learned over the years. I don't have to provide a link to everything anyway, it's a sign of desperation in losing a debate. Al Gore had nothing to do with the internet, despite his claims. Did you know the origins of the internet date back to the 1950's? Was Al Gore a politician back then? How did he take "the initiative in creating the Internet" back in the 50's?

PS- The effect of global warming on Antarctica.... must be contrary to factual evidence of an ice shelf that has grown on another part of Antarctica that doesn't seem to get mentioned except on stations like NatGeo and Discovery, but they have be lying, right? Did you know that Colorado used to be like the Amazon at one point in history? A rain forest......... it's no new surprise to know that the Earth constantly changes.

GWB was developing WMD’s and everyone on the planet thought that. They not there now, but what happened to them? I don’t know. We have not been distracted, but do not blame GWB. Clinton appeased NK on its Nuclear initiatives. The Europeans were dealing with Iran, and caved. GWB inherited this crap and has had to deal with it. IF you don’t like the way he’s handled it, that your opinion. It is not the priorities of our White House. Drilling is a solution as are Hydrogen fuel cells, Nuclear etc…. I am for all these technologies NOW. Drilling buys time until the others are available. The Democrats do not want drilling, so they are against the majority of the peoples wishes. These issues did not happen overnight. If Clinton had not vetoed ANWAR, we’d be enjoying OUR oil from that region, right now.
You love America, but let me ask you, have you put your life on the line for America? Have been willing to fight and die to defend my beliefs as well as your own? We I served in the Marines so do not lecture me. Public Service is not an honorable calling, it’s a Govt make work job. Being in the behemoth that is our Govt is nursing on the teet of the taxpayer. Go get a real job, earn $100k and have these fools call you rich, and pick your pocket. All the while they get pensions, free health care, housing allowances, connections that make them rich, etc…. There is no love of country by these people, Clinton, Barry, Pelosi, it’s all about power. You are the dangerous and completely ignorant fool and you and your type of thinking is the reason we’re broke.

All three of these cowards, Albore, Bubba and FrankenKerry, are multimillionaires never having actually ever worked at a real job in their lives. Public Service....? I don't think so.

Why don't you read the NIPCC Study of the Heartland Institute published in March of this year, the scientific study seriously challenging some of the scientific underpinnings of the IPCC? At least read the synopsis, if you don't have the time to read the full study.

    Go here: http://www.heartland.org/article.cfm?...

And, why not read about the brand new resolution from the American Physical Society. There is indeed a considerable scientific debate going on about the anthropomorphic basis of warming. Go here:

In addition, there is a good science policy blog called Prometheus with a few good recent posts by Roger Pielke, Jr. on the subject of the "hockey stick" controversy raised by Steve McIntyre at Climate Audit blog.

You may recall that Steve McIntyre was the guy who caught Hansen in the basic mathematical blunder involved in the "hottest year" (1998) claim, which was at the core of Hansen's original claims. We now know that 1934 is back to the hottest year. Why don't you read all about it? Here:

If anyone is supporting a candidate because of Party or Country its clearly the Democraps. Their candidate has no experience. I have more than he does having served in the Marines for 4 years. He’s an empty suit! At least Bill Clinton had been a Governor and had SOME Chief Executive experience? Kerry, Gore and the Barry Talk, but have done nothing of substance. Barry is style not substance. It’s like buying a car without an engine simply because it’s pretty, it’s just not going to get you very far. Ever heard of “the cult of personality?” That’s all Barry has. I would prefer a Governor as President because they have made Executive Decisions on a major scale. People say GWB is an idiot, thats just childish. The guy can fly a fighter jet, ran a multimillion dollar baseball team, has run a company, was elected to 2 consective terms in one of the largest states with an economy larger than most countries. (no one else has ever been elected to 2 consecutive terms as Governor of Texas) Oh, and then he was elected 2X as President. Whats Barry got to offer, he presents himself well! So does my 16 year old nephew!

you know...i'm glad you brought up The Track Record, because i'm looking forward to getting your thoughts on some data.

as well established, mcsame's policies represent a third bush term...while obama's policies represent a third clinton term as his platform is nearly identical to hillary's...and thus also to bill's.

therefore...if we take a look at the track records of those two administrations we can also take a look at the track records of both obama's and mcsame's policy stances.
