Fishing hot spot: White River
* Why here? The river offers miles of good, relatively uncrowded fishing for trout and Rocky Mountain whitefish.
* What's hot? The river is low and clear, grasshoppers are abundant and trout are looking for an easy floating meal.
* Tackle box: Hopper patterns, Stimulators, Royal Wulffs, Elk-Hair Caddis and Parachute Adams dry flies; red Copper Johns and assorted bead-head nymphs; small spinners for lure casters.
* Best times: Mornings and late afternoons.
* How to get there: From Denver, travel west on Interstate 70 to Rifle. Head north on Colorado 13 to Meeker. From Meeker, go east on Rio Blanco County Rod 8, which parallels the river.
* Ask the experts: Wyatt's Sports Center in Meeker, 970-878-4428.
