Regional Scene: Nuggets announce preseason schedule

The Denver Nuggets have set a seven-game preseason schedule, including an Oct. 11 game outdoors against the Phoenix Suns at the 16,000-seat Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
The Nuggets will play two games at the Pepsi Center: Oct. 10 against Minnesota, and Oct. 15 against Utah.
Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony will return to Syracuse, N.Y., with his NBA team, facing Phoenix on Oct. 17.
Denver will also make trips to Bismarck, N.D. (Oct. 19, Minnesota) and Edmonton, Alberta (Oct. 21, Toronto).
* Nuggets assistant Jamahl Mosley has been named to participate in the NBA's Basketball Without Borders camp next month in South Africa.
* Free-agent forward Louis Amundson, a Monarch High School graduate, has signed a contract with the NBA's Suns.
RAPIDS CHOSEN Colorado Rapids players Pablo Mastroeni, Omar Cummings and Bouna Coundoul have been called up by their respective national teams for matches Wednesday.
Mastroeni has been called up for the U.S. national team's World Cup qualifier at Guatemala. Cummings was called up for Jamaica's World Cup qualifier against Canada in Toronto. Coundoul was called up for Senegal's exhibition match at Libya.
* The Metro State men's soccer team was ranked seventh in the NCAA Division II preseason coaches poll.
Fort Lewis was ranked 16th and Regis University was ranked 23rd. The Metro State women's soccer team was ranked 14th in the Division II preseason coaches poll.
* The Rush Select IX under-16 soccer team, which includes six players from Colorado, qualified for Sunday's title match in the Premier Soccer Academies' World Youth Tournament in Lorain, Ohio, despite losing 2-0 on Thursday to the Venezuelan under-16 national team.
ANDERSON TO BE HONORED Former University of Denver hockey player Glenn Anderson will have his No. 9 jersey retired by the NHL's Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Jan. 19
HARRELL LEADS Colorado Springs resident Kory Harrell fired a first-round 65 to take a two-stroke lead in the Colorado Golf Association's Stroke Play Championships at Pinehurst Country Club in Denver.
The Air Academy High School graduate is followed by University of Colorado athlete Patrick Grady and Glendale resident Jonathan Marsico at 67.
