Boulder's Flanagan wins bronze in women's 10,000

BEIJING Shalane Flanagan, a Boulder native, broke her own national record and took the bronze medal in the women's 10,000 meters Friday.
Flanagan, who set the previous record (30 minutes, 34.49 seconds) on May 4 in her 10,000 debut, crossed the finish line in 30:22.22, just behind winner Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia (29:54.55) and silver medalist Elvan Abeylegesse of Turkey (29:56.34).
Kara Goucher, a former Boulder resident and University of Colorado runner, placed 10th in 30:56.16, a personal record.
