Denver is one of eight finalists to play host to the NCAA women’s basketball Final Four for the 2012 through 2016 tournaments.
Denver and the Pepsi Center are competing with Columbus, Ohio; Dallas; Indianapolis; Nashville, Tenn.; New Orleans; San Antonio; and Tampa, Fla.; for one of the five spots.
The Division I basketball committee will visit each city in September and October, and the finalists will present bids to the committee in November. The five sites will be announced in mid-November.
Of the eight candidates, Indianapolis, New Orleans, San Antonio and Tampa have hosted previous women’s Final Fours. Indianapolis will play host to the NFL’s Super Bowl in 2012. Denver played host to the men’s Final Four in 1990.
