People talk at Congressional District 2 Democratic candidate Jared Polis' party at the Renaissance Hotel in Broomfield.
CD2 POLIS PARTY - The mood of campaign workers is "cautiously optimistic" as (Jared) Polis takes Adams County. Cheers erupted as former State Sen. Polly Baca announced that Polis just won a key battleground county. However, campaign staffers remained aware that the tide could turn at any moment in this heated race.
"I'm nervous," said Sam Lopez, field director of the Polis campaign. "I've worked on the campaign for 13 months, and 13 months of work all comes down to this night."
Lopez said he was with Polis all day rallying some remaining voters by canvassing and phone banking.
Polis has yet to arrive, but Lopez said that he "was surprisingly calm, collected and excited."
Campaign volunteer Vinnie Montez, who has known Polis since childhood, said he is aware the 2nd Congressional District is a "tight race."
"I'm really hoping for my friend," Montez said.
