What's the difference between espresso and instant coffee? - Kay Smith, Allentown, Pa.
Espresso isn't made with a different kind of coffee from regular coffee - it's just brewed differently.
While drip coffee is made by letting almost-boiling water drip slowly through medium-ground coffee, espresso is made by pushing very hot water at high pressure through finely ground coffee.
The result is a thicker and stronger-flavored drink - though it has the same amount of caffeine.
Instant coffee, on the other hand, is just regular coffee that's been brewed and then dehydrated into granules, so adding boiling water to it hydrates it back into coffee.
