VIDEO: Focus on the Family pulls plea for rain at Obama speech

Monday, August 11, 2008

Text size

Praying for Rain in Denver

Focus on the Family Action pulled a video from its Web site today that asked people to pray for "rain of biblical proportions" during Barack Obama's Aug. 28 appearance at Invesco Field at Mile High to accept the Democratic nomination for president.

Stuart Shepard, director of digital media at Focus Action, the political arm of Focus on the Family, said the video he wrote and starred in was meant to be "mildly humorous."

But complaints from about a dozen Focus members convinced the organization to pull the video, said Tom Minnery, Focus Action vice president of public policy.

"If people took it seriously, we regret it," Minnery said Monday.

Focus on the Family does more damage to Christians than any kind-minded Democrat could possibly hope to do. Home of the cult of James Dobson. How embarrassing.

This reminds me of a story a week or so ago where mental defectives like these "christians" were praying for the gas prices to go down.

What I'd like to know is: Why do you have to pray to God for anything? Shouldn't he know what you need/want before you ask him for it? Or, is he just sitting around waiting for someone to pray to him before he does anything?

Only Christians would believe that if .05% of their prayers are answered, that it's proof of God's existence.

General George Patton frequently called upon Army Chaplains to write prayers that would help him kill Nazi's. Then read his bible before going to sleep.

On the other hand, FOTF really blew it on this one. If they are serious about this, they should have asked for every Christian able to come to Denver to pray during Obama's speech. Prayer is the greatest and most under-utilized weapon of the Christian church. They would have accomplished a lot more by humbling themselves, getting on their knees and praying while Obama is speaking.

Once again, the naivete of Christians and politics is showing again. Most Christian leaders and organizations would do well to just shut up, get on their knees and intercede in prayer. That is what the Bible commands us to do.....so read your Bible and DO what it says!!!

Those who want to base national policy on the moral values expressed in the Bible, should think about following those principals themselves first. As told in Luke:

And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”
But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village." Luke 9:51-56.

The Christian Science Monitor article Libtard linked to (see http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/1222/p1...) actually says it explicitly:

"The reason low-income states give a lot is religion," said George McCully, president of Massachusetts-based Catalogue for Philanthropy, whose index uses 2002 IRS tax return data to compare each state's average itemized charitable deduction with its average adjusted gross income.

"They are tithing, evangelical Protestants, and they are giving in proportion to their income," he says. "Up here [in the Northeast], religion doesn't help our giving. I wouldn't say it hurts, but it doesn't help, either."

As a professional in fund-raising, and a volunteer for community nonprofits (such as homeless shelters, employment centers, etc.), my experience is that most donors and volunteers are on the liberal side.

The problem with "Focus on the Family" isn't their view of Obama's policies or his character both of which I agree with their viewpoint. Their problem is their theology. They display a view of God that in some respects is unbiblical. The age of grace is what we presently live in. We can express our views and disagree with people and groups -no problem. The problem arises when we attack like the world does, and sully God's Name by presenting an unloving vision of who He is. "It's rains on the just and the unjust." To pray for rain at the Obama rally or convention is childish and represents a view of God that isn't graceful at all. God is opened armed to all and does not presently intervene to stop the will of man in these ways. He presently in the Person of the Holy Spirit draws men to the truth and they have the choice to accept or reject that truth. Coerce He doesn't. If American's vote for Obama then they vote for Obama- I won't and campaigning against him and for others is the choice I make. Demonization and utilization of a god who really doesn't exist is a stupid ploy. Get the truth out and proclaim it and let people decide.

Was Jesus anti sin? Boy that's an interesting discussion. I'd have to disagree. He wasn't anti sinner....but he didn't encourage sin. He hung out with sinners, He knew they'd sin, He knew we'd sin but that doesn't mean He approved. If you go down that road, then anything goes.

He IS antisin--or better stated; the sin antidote.

He may not have approved of the sin, but he didn't condemn the sinner, or the sinner's friends and families. In fact, knowing that his Father would judge them, he sacrificed himself so that they could be saved from damnation. If they chose a lifestyle that He dissaproves of, it's covered by the repentance/forgiveness clause. Catholics perform the last rights for just that reason. You can be any kind of jerk, and seconds before death, repent and be saved.
So, again, regardless of His political leanings, by his sacrifice, He made it unnescesary to bash gays and pro-choicers. They will either repent and be forgiven, or they won't. Just like serial child molesters and old lady killers. God sees us all as equals.
The sacrifice of Christ made Focus on the Family an anachronism before they were even concieved.

22"If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him, and he shall (N)pay as the judges decide.

All of the Clinton functions were free and open to the public. Americans did not have to volunteer unless they just wanted to. The only people who would have ever been turned away were people who the fire marshalls might have said "there are too many people". The Clintons wanted every American to meet them and hear their message for free.
I volunteered for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton all of the time; however, that was only because I wanted to. When I wanted to hear both candidates locally, I was told by his campaign staff that I would have to volunteer in order to have a chance to have a "ticket". Give me a break. Why didn't he chose a larger venue locally as Hillary did? That way, everyone could hear their message.
Don't worry, we will pay if he is elected. Get ready to be looked down on. Are you having "buyer's remorse" yet for those of you who voted for this guy in the Primary? He is an egomaniac. He is not strong and that is why he married Michelle because she is a strong black woman. He can't even make up his mind from day to day. He likes a person or issue and then the very next day he changes his mind.
The only way that I would vote for him is if Hillary were VP, then I could start to try and like him again. However, he needs to ease up on the elitist crap. The Clintons are filthy rich; however, they treat everyone like human beings. They talk to you like you would talk to your own neighbor.
Go Hillary!!! It's not over....or go McCain (what's another 4 years). Sorry Hillary, I just can't stand the way that the media and some men treated women during the Primary; they laughed at us.
People magazine wrote that the Obama's have House Rules, one of which is having their daughters only pull up the sheets when making the bed (what a good message he would be sending to the troops as Commander and Cheif if he were to be elected.....they have to make their bedding perfect!). Plus, in the magazine, it stated that the Obama children did not receive Birthday or Christmas presents....that is crazy!
As far as that church, I would have gotten up during the middle of church and left; I can't believe he subjected his girls to that church for so long...he attended that church for 20 years and didn't get the hint that maybe something wasn't quite right?
Also, he is a big fan of rap music, which is notorious for downgrading women. That fits right in with how we were treated during the Primary. Don't get me wrong, I love R&B, that's all I listen to; however, it is nice music, not "ho" music.
Good luck BO and MO (that's what they like to call themselves, short for Barack Obama and Michelle Obama). I just like to call you Barry because I know the real you and the real you is not so bad, so get over this ego trip and come back down to earth and please have Hillary as your VP to be fair to both of us.
By the way, I attended our local JJ Dinner in Indy and I was not impressed at all with Obama.

    Thank you,

Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

The earth has been drenched with blood shed in this cause, the face of day darkened with the blackness of the crimes perpetrated in its name. There have been no dirtier wars than religious wars, no bitterer hates than religious hates, no fiendish cruelty like religious cruelty; no baser baseness than religious baseness. It has destroyed the peace of families, turned the father against the son, the brother against the brother. And for what? Are we any nearer to unanimity? On the contrary, diversity within the churches and without has never been so widespread as at present. Sects and factions are multiplying on every hand, and every new schism is but the parent of a dozen others.”-- Felix Adler

    God and Country.

Do John McCain or conservative republicans respect the moral foundations of this country? The U.S. Constitution was designed to protect the people of America from misguided government.

U.S. Constitution: Amendment I - Freedom of Religion
Right now, for the first time ever, your tax dollars are funding religious groups you may not agree with. To add insult to injury, conservative judges have ruled that taxpayers do not have a right to challenge this expenditure.

Amendment IV - Search and seizure
Under the guise of court action against abortion, Conservative republicans had John Ashcroft subpoena all the medical records of literally thousands of women just like you and members of your family. Conservative republicans are invading your privacy every day. Unfortunately for all of us, they don't appear to care about our U.S. constitution, or by extension, the people of our great country.

Amendment X - Powers of the States and People
John McCain and conservative republicans have tried consistently to overturn States Laws. They used your tax dollars to destroy the will of the people of Oregon, and the famous "Death with Dignity" law; they lost, but undoubtedly will try again. Conservative republicans and John McCain do not respect States Rights.

Amendment VIII - Cruel and Unusual punishment
Would you rather die, or support a government which supported and sanctioned torture? The founding fathers would rather have died, and in fact they were proud to fight and die for our government: A government which specifically outlaws cruel and unusual punishment for very important reasons.

John McCain and the conservative republicans have destroyed the moral foundations of our country. I urge you to keep this in mind in the coming election as we rebuild our nation together by voting Democrat.

I have just finished watching the "Rain on Obama" video. I am appalled! I cannot believe a christian organization would be a part of such hatred. I am not sure if you remember what rain this time of year did to the thousands of families in Hurrican Katrina. I am a christian and cannot find anything biblical that supports such hatred. It is ok not to support a person and their beliefs, but to wish them harm and their supporters harm is just barbaric. I thought the prayer is suppose to be, "thy will be done on earth and as it is in heaven". I am sure if you and your congregation prayed for "GOD's will" then the right person will be placed in office. He said, "the prayers of the righteous avails much". Oh ye of little faith. With Jesus as our example, please tell me when he ever represented GOD in this way. I pray that you will reread the scripture that says, " there will be people at the gates trying to get in and GOD will say I never knew you". And remember their reply...didn't I do all these things in your name...and he says...I never knew you. Stop playing GOD and remember that he says, "if I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me". Are you a politician or an ambassador of GOD. You cannot serve two masters. May GOD be with you.

That's because they're not really Christians. In the end times, there will be many false teachers and prophets and they will lead many astray... It's obvious to me as a Christian, that the likes of Hagee, Dobson, Falwell, Robertson, etc... are all a bunch of false teachers. They expouse nothing but hatred and intolerance.
