The University of Colorado women’s basketball program has received verbal commitments from twin sisters Megan and Brenna Malcolm-Peck, a pair of 6-foot-2 forwards ranked among ESPN’s Top 100 prospects in the 2009 recruiting class.

The Malcolm-Pecks, about to enter their senior seasons at Horizon High School after transferring from ThunderRidge High School two years ago, committed to the Buffaloes on Friday, according to their AAU coach, Kirsten Walters.

ESPN’s thumbnail on Megan Malcolm-Peck: Solid fundamentals and good mobility, not the most athletic player by any means but because of her basketball IQ and instincts she can play with athletic players. Good midrange game and interior passer. Lacks the quickness to be a lockdown defender but she isn’t a donut either. A well-rounded player who can contribute at the D-1 level.

ESPN’s thumbnail on Brenna Malcolm-Peck: Similar player to her sister ... though maybe not quite as active inside. Fundamentals are sound and she gets her mobility for her size is impressive. Not super quick or fast so probably not a wing in college but has three-point range. Will need to get stronger to take the physical pounding of some of the stronger forwards.

The Malcolm-Pecks’ commitments are the second and third this summer received by CU. Committing in June was center Melissa MacFarlane, of Millard North High School in Omaha. At 6-7, MacFarlane will be the tallest women’s player in CU history.

The Buffs are believed to have three scholarships remaining for their upcoming recruiting class.
