James Taylor, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Ani DiFranco all had the exact same reaction when etown approached them to play a concert during the Democratic National Convention: absolutely.

The Boulder-based national radio show - now in its 18th year - makes another trip to Denver on Aug. 26 to record its program at the Buell Theatre with the most impressive lineup it has ever put together.

"They've all long been guests at etown and supporters and friends of ours. It's sort of a homecoming," etown co-founder Nick Forster said.

"It just seems like a real natural fit, and we're celebrating this time of real movement and change. It seems like the country is electrified," co-founder Helen Forster said. "So many people, young and old, looking forward to a shift in the way things are done, especially in the way we look at sustainability and the environment."

"David (Crosby) in particular is aware of the role of music in effecting social changes," Nick Forster said. Besides, Helen added, the Forsters know how to put on a show and have fun. Fans can expect the usual - several songs from each artist, interviews, awards. Tickets go on sale to etown members Tuesday and to the public Thursday. Prices will be $50 to $85.

PARTY-GIRL POLITICS: 9News entertainment reporter Kirk Montgomery has a nose for news and a finesse for funny. He combined the two during a Truth Test report that aired Wednesday. Montgomery debunks the claims made by "tabloid darling and presidential candidate" Paris Hilton in the anti-John McCain ad she made for funnyordie.com, a response to the McCain attack ad that uses Hilton's image while accusing rival Barack Obama of being a "celebrity."

Montgomery dissects each of Hilton's allegations including, "I'm not from the olden days or promising change like that other guy, I'm just hot."

"This is false," Montgomery says, adding that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals named Hilton the worst- dressed celebrity in America.

She goes on to call McCain "the oldest celebrity in the world."

"This is false," Montgomery counters. "The oldest celebrity in the world in actress Gloria Stuart from The Titanic, who was born July 4, 1910. She is 98."

Hilton: "I want to present my energy policy for America as soon as I finish this article on where I can fly to get the best tan . . . oh, Maui."

Montgomery: "This is false. According to the American Academy of Dermatologists the only safe tan is a fake tan."

Hilton: "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and pick out a vice president. I'm thinking Rihanna."

Monty: "This is impossible. To serve as vice president an individual must be a natural born U.S. citizen no younger than 35 years old. She was born in Barbados and is 20 years old."

"Truth Test is something Adam Schrager always does during political season," Montgomery told me. "I decided to jump into the political fray with this one - my first and last - with his blessing."

STAGE SOAKER: For the first time in Elway's Cherry Creek four-year history of Wednesday night summer concerts on the patio, they had to pull the plug when Message in a Bottle, a Police cover band, sang one set after the power shorted out twice.

Raindrops started falling before the scheduled 6 p.m. start and would-be concertgoers huddled under awnings above the outside bars. People sardine- stacked under the awning over the front entrance when the dining room and bar reached capacity.

"They played three songs instead of three sets," said Elway's GM Andrew Chapman. "(Message in a Bottle) is a total match for what we're doing so we'll try and bring them back next year." The crazy popular series ends Wednesday with the Railbenders get the party started at 6.

COMEDY FINALLY COMING: After endless delays, the second Comedy Works, a 21,000-square-foot facility with a restaurant, lounge and ballroom, will finally open its doors Oct. 10 in the Landmark development between Belleview and Orchard in Greenwood Village.

Leading up to the opening, Comedy Works will host a week of events - including dinner at Lucy (named after owner Wende Curtis' dog), drinks in the lounge Lila B. and tickets to shows - supporting local non-profits Oct. 1-7. For more details and tickets: comedyworks.com (click on calendar) or 303-595-3637.

CREATIVE COMEDY: At the original Comedy Works, 1226 15th St., the Creative Coalition, a nonpartisan group of Hollywood types coming to both conventions to discuss political issues, has bought out the downtown space from 9 to midnight Aug. 26. It'll be the first time in the yucks club's 27-year history that Comedy Works will be sans a show.

"We've done a buyout a couple of times, but it usually involves some type of a show," said spokeswoman Susan Collyar. "This is the first time without one."

Instead, the seats and tables will be cleared out to make room for A-list cocktail partiers.

"We have been informed that there will be a ton of high-profile people at the event," Collyar said.

HAYDEN HERE: Tom Hayden, the 68-year-old co-founder of the Students for a Democratic Society and former Jane Fonda husband, will be the guest speaker during the DNC as part of the Denver Press Club/Denver Athletic Club Speaker series at noon Aug. 25 at the Denver Athletic Club.

Hayden, a former California state legislator, will talk about his new book Writings for a Democratic Society - A Tom Hayden Reader, a collection of his writings from the 1960s to the Iraq war. Tickets: $17 for members; $20 for non-members. Reservations required: Amanda at the Denver Athletic Club 720-931- 6751 or amattocks@denver athleticclub.org.

Penny Parker's column appears Tuesday through Saturday. Listen to her on the Caplis and Silverman radio show between 4 and 5 p.m. Fridays on KHOW-AM (630). Call her at 303-954-5224 or e-mail parker@RockyMountainNews.com.

Oh yeaaaah, fingerpaint my body up like Peter Max, let me walk around naked with the emperor, and swoon with Lady Godiva, sleep on the earth in a city park, throw my body excretments on others as a form of communion with my fellow man. Our country is falling down, deep in world crisis, pur solvency economically questionable, and you want to invite me to a coronation party for the new king of our nation? Eat, drink and be merry merchants of this great city, we are the pillar of all the world. Look at the great Babylon, how she revels in her splendor; predicted to fall in a day. What is a day to One who holds eternity? America, you have no leader from either party, to guide you. Rudderless abandon, such a great loss. The choices are not looking good this election.

Hambone, to be the greatest nation on the face of this earth, a nation that can humble her enemies in short days, and you stand to elect from either party presented, a poor choice for our leader. Sorry, I want better for my nation than that which we now have before us. There are greater men to lead our nation than an inexperenced kid, and and old man without a dream or vision. My opinion, no apologies.

Curiosity leads me, respect restrains me, with a name like Hambone I know you must have turned a card; that name has significant meaning amongst convicts. Tell me.
