When the office opened at 11 a.m. Broomfield and the others were told that they had to apply for tickets online.

The good news for Barack Obama supporters on Wednesday was the highly anticipated announcement of the plan for distributing free tickets to see his nomination speech at Invesco Field at Mile High during the Democratic National Convention.
The bad news was that party officials left many questions unanswered - including how early people should get to Invesco Field to clear security, what items could be brought into the stadium and details about how fraud or ticket scalping would be prevented.
First came the boosterism in the bowels of Invesco Field, where party officials announced the ticket distribution plan publicly for the first time.
Leading off was Democratic National Convention Committee Chief Executive Officer Leah Daughtry, who said more than half of the 75,000 tickets will go to Colorado residents.
Daughtry said nearly two- thirds of the seats will go to the Mountain West region and the Southwest, while the remaining seats will be available for the rest of the country.
But with approximately 20,000 people - delegates and party officials already credentialed for DNC events at the Pepsi Center - automatically getting into Invesco, the pool of tickets shrinks to about 55,000.
Party officials said the number of tickets available for Colorado residents is fluid because those not claimed by people in other states will be cycled back into the pool and automatically go to Coloradans.
Gov. Bill Ritter said Colorado and the region will get the lion's share of the tickets because of its battleground status this presidential cycle.
A recent poll showed Republican Sen. John McCain with a 2-point lead on Obama in Colorado. In Nevada, Obama is up by 2 points.
'Political sea change'
"The Rocky Mountain West has been, really, part of a political sea change over the last 10 years if you think about the governors of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arizona - they are all Democrats," Ritter said.
"There is something that has happened here on the political landscape that we wanted to share with the rest of the country."
The decision for Obama to deliver his speech at Invesco instead of the Pepsi Center was made nearly a month ago, but Wednesday's announcement leaves only about three weeks for people who apply for tickets to decide if they can make the trip.
The deadline for filling out the ticket application form is Tuesday, and people might not know until Aug. 15 if they got one.
Once people get a ticket, they still have to go through other steps to show they are serious about attending.
"They're going to have a conversation with people about their travel plans - how are you planning to get here, where are you planning to stay, that you are actually going to be able to use the ticket you've reserved," Daughtry said.
"Once we're satisfied you actually can get here and have some plans to stay, then they will make the decision to get you your ticket and then go to the office to get your credential."
People will pick up their tickets at Obama's Campaign for Change offices, of which there are now nine in Colorado.
Officials are confident there is strong demand for tickets. Pat Waak, chairwoman of the Colorado Democratic Party, said she has a list of 10,000 people wanting tickets. Natalie Wyeth at the DNCC said they have a list of more than 20,000.
Andrea Lomax, of Los Angeles, planned to sign up for tickets as soon as possible today. Lomax will be in Denver during the DNC to volunteer with the homeless, and said she didn't want to miss the historic event - even if she has to sit in Invesco for a few hours before the speech.
"Nothing would deter me," Lomax said. "I don't mind waiting. I'll take one of (Obama's) books. The second one, since I've read the first one already."
Photo ID needed
Daughtry said the tickets would also be available to all types of people - Democrats, Republicans and those without a party affiliation.
Count Colorado Republican Party Chair Dick Wadhams skeptical.
"Null and void on those chances," he said. "Because the Obama campaign has made it clear you have to take some kind of loyalty oath and pledge your life and sacred honor to the campaign."
The details of how the resale of tickets - or "community credentials" as the DNCC calls them - will be prevented was also murky.
Party officials said a photo identification would be needed to pick up the ticket and that it could be activated online.
But what remained unanswered was how to prove the person walking through the gates at Invesco was the same person who activated the ticket in the first place.
Daughtry, who is a Pentecostal minister, tried to appeal to people's sense of right and wrong.
"We're going to have to do a little bit of trust here and hope that people won't distribute them," Daughtry said.
The news conference lasted for a little more than 19 minutes, with only about eight minutes devoted to DNCC officials answering logistical questions.
But with hands still raised and questions unanswered, DNCC spokeswoman Jenni Engebretsen cut the news conference short and helped hustle Ritter, Daughtry and Obama National Co- Chair Federico Pena away.
What we know about Obama's speech at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium
* How many people do convention officials hope to have in Invesco Field at Mile High for Sen. Barack Obama's acceptance speech on Aug. 28?
More than 75,000.
* How can Coloradans can request credentials?
Apply at http://co.barackobama.com/invesco or by calling (888) 468-7404. The deadline for applying is 9 p.m. Aug. 12, although if the number of requests far exceeds the number of credentials the campaign will stop taking applications before that.
* What happens then?
Beginning Monday, Obama campaign staffers will contact people who have been selected to receive credentials and verify that they have a way to get to Denver and a place to stay. Those who are granted credentials will then be given a place to pick them up. When that is done, those granted tickets will have to go to an Obama campaign office and present a valid photo identification. They will then be given instructions on how to "activate" barcodes on them, a step that can be accomplished on the Internet, in person, or by phone. On Aug. 20, credentials that have not been activated will be redistributed to people on the waiting list.
* Can Republicans or Independents go?
Yes. There will not be background checks done on people who apply for credentials.
* How will officials stop people from selling tickets on the Internet?
Convention planners will cancel any ticket sold on the black market and are working on a system to ensure that those who are issued the credentials are the ones who come to the stadium on Aug. 28.
* Where can I get more information?
http://www.demconvention.com/ invesco/
http://co.barackobama.com/invesco
What we don't know:
* How will people get to the stadium?
The city and the Regional Transportation District have not finished the mobility plan that will be used to guide people to the stadium on Aug. 28.
* What will the credentials look like?
We don't know. Convention officials would not make mock ups available Wednesday.
* How many tickets will be available to the general public?
Although more than 75,000 people will be allowed into Invesco Field, it's not clear how many of the "community credentials" will be distributed. Here's why: Roughly 20,000 people are already credentialed for the first three days of the convention at the Pepsi Center, and all of them will also be able to get into Invesco Field. Then an unspecified number of credentials will be given to the Obama campaign to distribute. And finally, the exact number of seats remains in flux because the stadium's design is still be finalized.
* How many will go to Colorado residents?
Convention planners committed Wednesday to making sure that half the tickets to Obama's speech will go to Coloradans. And roughly two-thirds of them will go to people from the Rocky Mountain West and the Southwest.
* When will the stadium open on Aug. 28?
That is not clear.
* Will people have to be in the stadium by a particular time on Aug. 28?
That is not clear.
* Can people who go on Aug. 28 bring anything into the stadium, such as food and water, or umbrellas or cameras?
That is not clear.

Yes. There is a meeting on Wednesday for the "Honest Democrats for Obama" group. It will be held at 24th and Broadway. The meeting is NOT open to the public, just those who are "Honest Democrats". Look for the bright yellow port-potty with the Obama sticker on the side. Meeting to begin inside the porta-potty promptly at 2pm. They expect plenty of extra room, so bring a friend to keep you company in the meeting.

Obama's change to Invesco Field required the Secret Service to request an additional $9.7 million dollars for the extra security. Every cent of that comes from taxpayers.... not "independent" parties.
Instead needy Americans could have been helped with that $9.7 million dollars..... instead of wasting it on an empty suit that prefers puffing up his weak image, rather than actually doing anything that helps people.

Obama hasn't gotten much "bounce" from his European trip, and for all practical purposes, he's in a dead heat with McCain with 90 days to go. All that's needed is one more gaff or further erosion in polls, which we all know are meaningless this early, and the Democrat Party elders will start to question his "viability" as the best candidate to defeat McCain. I'm telling you, Lady Macbeth is waiting in the wings, and has her knife is glistening in the gloaming. Mike

Y'all notice how, on any article about the Dem Presidential nominee, the majority of comments (and certainly the most emotional) come from the far fringe of the right wing...people who would never ever even consider the possibility of perhaps voting for a Dem?
It would seem those folks might more profitably spend time trying to come up with a reason to vote for McCain despite their distaste for his historical positions on immigration, campaign finance, the religious right, cooperation with the Liberal Enemy, environmentalism and global warming, and taxes equal to spending (of course he's trying to repudiate those, especially the last, but we all understand).
My major national domestic issues are Fiscal Responsibility, Civil Liberties, Free Trade, and Healthcare. Positions on free trade and civil liberties push me to McCain (though I’m disappointed by his reaction to the Supreme Court’s Habeas ruling last month, as I am by Obama's on the FISA ruling), but that's offset by his continuing lack of realism on Iraq, willful ignorance on healthcare issues; and on independent analyses of each candidate's fiscal plans showing McCain's promotes, by far, the largest amount of deficit spending
I was glad the Rs managed to nominate their only candidate who stood a chance—I appreciated the option. I would note the only chance McCain still has is to convince me (and therefore the majority of Independents like me) to vote for him, while still keeping a good percentage of the frothing-at-the-mouth-anti-gummint folks posting here. I think that’s becoming ever less likely—I’ve been willing to let McCain convince me and I’m very disappointed that he hasn’t even tried. His campaign’s switch to a complete attack-only mode (and especially, the lack of substance in those attacks) has pretty much left Obama as the only remaining alternative.
By the way, I don't put a lot of stock in the 'experience' argument—I'm not sure there's any especially applicable experience for President (that's my take on the "look where 'experience' got the Bush administration" argument). The thing about both Obama and Clinton was their unique worldviews—they both took an unprecedented path to the nomination and could not have helped being very different from any President of the last several decades. I think something very different is necessary (and that’s my take on the ‘Change’ argument).
Although his positions are certainly more liberal than mine, I'm making a judgment that Obama has a rational pragmatism (the ability to change his mind based on new information) that would allow him to consider other points of view, and an innate intelligence and moral core that would guide sound decisions. My advice to all, is please make your choice based on *your own* understanding of the ability, intelligence, knowledge, views, positions, judgment, and moral strength of your favored candidate; not on someone else's distortions of that candidate.

Why is it people on the right know more about Obama than the old man? Hate.....

i agree wholeheartedly, gee tee.
mccain should stop attacking obama and run on his policy stances and The Track Record.
the problem is that if he does that, he has to acknowledge that his policies represent a third bush term...which is enormously unpopular with the vast majority of americans.
he either attacks obama and runs from the republican track record and his platform or he faces certain defeat.
i'm not surprised at the tact he and his handlers have chosen. in order to stay competitive, they really didn't have a choice.
wouldn't it be nice to dream that the last 8 years had been wildly successful and mccain could do nothing but hand out buttons saying "Vote for McSame" and win the election in a landslide?
but then again we're back to The Simple Equation.
do a good job and you get to be reelected.
do a poor job and you receive nov06-style beatings.
i wonder what the performance review is going to say this election cycle...

Sell the tickets on EBay? Why take advantage of the dinwitted kids that are the only people willing to buy them?
One clueless twit claimed the tickets will have your name printed on them. ROFLMAO at that one! What next? Trying to scare people off by claiming they'll have your picture, personal information, and your home address on it?
The best thing to do is get the tickets. Get as many as you can. Activate them. And then put them where they belong. In the toilet. Watch the fiasco on TV and see all the empty seats, with Obama minions trying to put as many cardboard cutouts into the empty seats as possible.... so that it looks like real people showed up. Not just people that are slower than average.
And it will help taxpayers too. It is a service to the country if ZERO people show up. Less cost for security. Less hassles and congestion for the citizens of Denver. Everyone benefits when a fatcat politician isn't able to waste taxpayer money.

I notice that the Obama tickets on Ebay have been removed by Ebay staff... I have newfound respect for Ebay, given that they seem to be taking a stand against fraud!

"Nope, I'm pro liberty and freedom of choice"
outstanding to hear that you're pro-choice, duncan.
carry on.
"Abortion, like so many other issues, should not be the governments business"
federal funding for contraceptives isn't federal funding for abortions....which i thought was against policy.
is that not the case, duncan?
i take it that you can't provide ONE policy stance from obama concerning "gun grabbing".
can we scratch that up to a myth?
"And gee so have you democrats...sam walton....blah blah blah.
i am looking for examples of mirrored policies that are blatantly pro-industry...not your opinions and conspiracy theories, duncan.

Why is it fraud? Once the tickets hit my hands, they are mine to do what i please with them. There is no way for them to tract whether i give them to someone else, at least now. If there is, then i'll put the tickets where they belong, in the toilet. Dumbocrats always have to prevent capitalism- they are such fascists.
Who wants to hear this racist moron try and be JFK and MLK at the same time. but we'll see who is that dumb and pays me for it. Only dumbocrats are that dumb anyways!
Lastly, ebay is only one way, there's always craigslist.
