San Francisco The Rockies took a step toward answering the question about their starting pitcher for Saturday night against the Dodgers.
They acquired left-hander Jorge de la Rosa and cash to offset his $1 million salary from the Royals on Wednesday afternoon as the player to be named later in the deal that sent right-hander Ramon Ramirez to the Royals in late spring training. The Royals also will receive a player to be determined, who is tied to how de la Rosa pitches with the Rockies.
In another move, the Rockies acquired right-hander Steve Grilli from Detroit for minor leaguer Zach Simons. Grilli is expected to take the place of Jose Capellan.
The Rockies are believed to have received roughly $200,000, which would make up for the difference between what Ramirez and what the Rockies will pay de la Rosa.
De la Rosa is initially transfered from Triple-A Omaha to Triple-A Colorado Springs, pending a move being made on the Rockies big league roster to open a spot for him. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who flew to Denver on Wednesday morning to have a magnetic resonance imaging exam on his strained left quadriceps, is a likely candidate for the disabled list.
De la Rosa, 27, was 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA, 23 strike outs and only seven walks in 22 innings at Omaha this season. He takes the rotation spot of lefty Franklin Morales, who was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday morning.

The pitcher aquired from Detroit is JASON Grilli not Steve. FYI I am a Tigers fan and Detroit is extactic about unloading this gas can.
