Call it a triple-whammy. Mother Nature has taken a toll on Colorado trees, destroying them with bark beetles near Granby, a tornado in Holly and a wildfire near Cheesman Reservoir. But this weekend, Centennial's own Tagawa Gardens aims to take a stand.
Everyone who donates $15 today or Sunday for the Colorado Tree Coalition Re-Forest Colorado program will receive a 25-percent-off coupon on any tree purchase at the garden center at 7711 S. Parker Road. Also as part of its "Earth Friendly Sustainable Gardening Weekend," Tagawa will host free classes and displays to encourage gardeners to think organic, go native, reduce emissions and save water. Call 303-690-4722 or visit tagawagardens.com.
You can also catch the final day of Twice as Haute's "Earth Day Sale-abration." Take your own bag to the high-end consignment shop today and receive 15 percent off your purchase (no clearance or red-starred items). The Denver store is at 600 Downing St. Visit twiceashaute.com or call 303-753- 6003.
Anyone with a penchant for glass collecting or with a mom who collects (Mother's Day is only two weeks away) should head to today's 34th annual show and sale of the Rocky Mountain Depression Glass Society.
The event features vintage glassware from the 1800s and on, including Carnival, Depression and Early American Pattern glass. You can also find American-made pottery and china. Items come from club member collections and the Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and Events Center, I-25 and Plum Creek Parkway, Exit 181, in Castle Rock. Admission is $4; kids under 18 are free. Call 303-722-5446 or visit rmdgs.com.
You might find lots of Mom's Day gifts at the University of Denver's Antique Study Group Biannual Garage Sale next weekend, from jewelry and collectibles to household and decorative items. Shop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and May 3 at the Masonic Temple, 350 S. Broadway. Consignments are welcome. Call 303-777-0371.
If name-brand clothes would suit Mom fine, and bargain prices would make you happy, check the half-price sale at the Junior League of Denver's Second Time Shop. All clothing, accessories and housewares are 50 percent off through May 3. Find great deals on spring selections at the store, 5042 E. Hampden Ave. Call 303-789- 4055.
Or visit the Act II Consignment Boutique today for its "50 percent off previously discounted merchandise" sale. Held the last Saturday of every month, the event offers great bargains.
