Two 15-year-old boys have been arrested for allegedly setting a fire Tuesday in a gym at Bear Creek High School.
The boys are both students at the school and live in Lakewood, according to Lakewood police and West Metro Fire.
The charges include first- and second-degree arson, both of which are felonies.
The fire began in the school's small gym just before noon Tuesday.
It was detected by a monitored alarm system and confirmed by school staff members. There was no class in the gym at the time.
It took firefighters about 25 minutes to put out the blaze. Investigators say combustible materials in the gym caught fire, causing extensive damage to the building and school.
Smoke damage is extensive throughout much of the school and classes are not scheduled to resume before Monday.
Authorities did not say what the motivation may have been for setting the fire.
