A DARK CHAPTER IN COLORADO HISTORY

To help honor the 94th anniversary of the Ludlow Massacre in southern Colorado - one of the darkest days in Colorado history - U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar introduced legislation Friday to designate the Ludlow Massacre site as a National Historic Landmark.

About the massacre:

* April 20, 1914: The Colorado National Guard opened fired on a tent colony of striking coal miners and their families the day after Easter in Ludlow. In the ensuing gunbattle and fires, at least 11 children and two women were killed. In all, at least 20 people died.

* About the strike: Historians regard the 1913-1914 coal strike as one of the most violent labor conflicts of the early 20th century.

CUE THE LOVIN' SPOONFUL

Did you ever have to make up your mind?

Pick up on one and leave the other behind?

It's not often easy and not often kind . . .

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean wants all uncommitted superdelegates to get on board with somebody.

On CNN, Dean said, "We cannot give up two or three months of active campaigning and healing time. We've got to know who our nominee is. And there's no reason not to know after the last primary on June 3."

How Colorado's superdelegates are doing

* U.S. Sen. Ken SalazarOn the fence

* U.S. Rep. Mark UdallUndecided

* Democratic Party Chair Pat WaakHolding out

* Former Gov. Roy RomerHasn't said

And Gov. Bill Ritter?

His spokesman Cody Wertz said Ritter believes he has a little latitude as governor of the state hosting the convention. "He feels strongly about wanting this process to play itself out to maintain strong, good, healthy relationships with both Obama and Clinton," Wertz said.

. . . 'You better go home, son, and make up your mind'

    Salazar is making a bid for more votes from unionists and liberals. We don't need this as a national landmark. This neatly plays into revisionist history. Let's judge them NOW by our standards instead of by their standards THEN. While we're at it, why don't we cede the Southwest back to Mexico?
