Qwest Communications said Friday it is trying to determine the full scope of a roughly one-hour Internet outage Thursday afternoon in metro Denver.
"We're still investigating the particulars, including the number of customers impacted," Qwest spokeswoman Jennifer Barton said.
State regulators said they have asked Qwest for information, a routine request when traditional, or analog, phone service may have been affected.
Internet service and Internet telephony were affected.
Qwest has said a hardware failure in its downtown Denver central switching office caused the outage.
Wireless carriers that rely on Qwest's network to haul some traffic also felt the impact. Verizon Wireless said 24 cell towers in western Colorado were off the air for more than an hour.
Barton said some toll-free services at Qwest facilities outside Colorado also were impacted.
