HEROES GALORE
Standley Lake High School student Cameron Durand saw his duty and he did it.
Monday, a classmate, 17-year-old senior Lindsay Hayden, suddenly collapsed at her desk. Durand, who is trained in CPR, sprang quickly into action while the teacher called 911 and school resource officer Dan Mayer was alerted.
A student told Mayer that Hayden had no pulse, so he radioed the office for the Automated External Defibrillator.
Durand, Mayer and school staff member Jennifer Washington performed CPR for three minutes while the AED was rushed to the classroom.
Hayden needed to be shocked twice, but her heart was restarted.
She was listed as stable Wednesday at Children's Hospital.
* And now, the wonderful rest of the story:
The AED machine at Standley Lake was donated by the family of Dan Lunger, a boy who died at the school in August 2006 from an undiagnosed heart condition. Doctors said he might have survived if an AED had been available.
GAME ON!
It seems there's more riding on the Avalanche-Wild hockey playoff series than a mere shot at the Stanley Cup.
Leah Daughtry, CEO of the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August, has crossed swords with Maria Cino, CEO of the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul in September.
If the Avalanche wins the series, Daughtry expects fresh walleye from the lakes of Minnesota.
If the Wild wins, Cino expects a shipment of Colorado-raised beef steaks.
TALKIN' SOME TRASH
"To my friend, Maria, and her fine team in Minnesota: Get ready to be buried by our Avs."
Daughtry, bragging at a freakishly high level
