WALLET CHECK

A state trooper interrupted the House Republican caucus lunch, saying he was hunting for a missing wallet.

"Have you checked with Gov. Ritter, yet?" quipped Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma.

Republicans, who want a protected "rainy day" emergency fund established as recession looms, have gigged Ritter for spending "every red cent" of revenue in his proposed state budget, which reaches the maximum 6 percent annual growth limit.

DARN THOSE ETHICS

"Drinks are on Paul!" a lawmaker shouted on the floor as colleagues cheered the selection of Rep. Paul Weissmann, D-Louisville, as "Best Bartender" by YS magazine for his work at Louisville's historic Blue Parrot Bar on Main Street.

"Drinks are not on the House," House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, D-Denver, shot back.

FIGHTING WORDS

"I don't know, Memphis has never stolen our water!"

Sen. Josh Penry, R-Fruita, shouted from the floor when Sen. Jack Taylor, R-Steamboat Springs, rose to congratulate the University of Kansas Jayhawks for winning the NCAA men's basketball championship over the Memphis Tigers
