WATCH THE BIRDIE

487 bird species have been identified in Colorado, moving the state into seventh place for the most identified bird species. Colorado shares seventh with Massachusetts and Alaska.

Two recent bird discoveries - the sighting of a rare streak-backed oriole at a Loveland feeder in December and the spotting of a brown-crested flycatcher in Weld County in October - moved Colorado up on the list, which appears in the April 2008 issue of Colorado Birds.

KEEP OFF THE GRASS

"That is a tough, tough job because everybody thinks they know what they want for their park, and we got folks who love our parks so much that they don't think anyone should use them."

Denver Councilman Charlie Brown, on the resignation of Parks and Recreation Manager Kim Bailey15

ROSIE THE ABDUCTEE

The Humane Society of Boulder Valley was burglarized Saturday night, and a puppy was stolen from the Adoption Center. Rosie, a pitbull mix that suffers from a serious skin disease called demadex mange, was being treated for the condition, which can cause lifelong skin problems if left untreated.

Anyone with information about Rosie is urged to contact the Boulder Police Department at 303-441-3333.
