A Boulder man was arrested early Thursday after police said he crashed a memorial service, grabbed the breast of the deceased woman's sister and showed her mother pornographic pictures.

Marlos Hernandez, 31, faces possible charges of unlawful sexual contact, first-degree burglary and harassment after police said he entered a memorial gathering in another unit of his apartment building that had started Wednesday evening and extended past midnight.

When Hernandez upset the mother of the woman who recently died, other grieving guests became upset and a "physical confrontation" ensued outside the apartment complex in the 700 block of Mohawk Drive, according to police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley.

Hernandez was treated and released from Boulder Community Hospital for a cut to the face. He then was taken to Boulder County Jail, where he remained late Thursday on a $20,000 bond, Huntley said.

The deceased woman whose life was being celebrated Wednesday hasn't been identified. Details of her death aren't known.

Her mother, who hosted the memorial gathering, told police she didn't know Hernandez but wasn't suspicious when he came into her home because lots of people she doesn't know have paid their respects, Huntley said.

Upon entering the apartment, Hernandez went first to the kitchen and put his arm around the deceased woman's teenage sister "as if to comfort her," Huntley said.

But the woman told officers it made her uncomfortable.

"Then he reached down and grabbed one of her breasts," Huntley said.

The sister told police she didn't want to start a confrontation, so she left the kitchen. Hernandez then went near a display of pictures and memories of the deceased and pulled out a cell phone, Huntley said.

"She thought he was going to take a picture of the shrine with his cell phone," Huntley said. "But he showed the mother a pornographic picture instead."

That, Huntley said, upset the mother and her guests, who forced Hernandez outside and started fighting with him.

Police were called to the scene about 12:10 a.m., Huntley said.

"Some people had some physical injuries," she said. All of them were minor.

Funeral Crasher??

There is always a time and place for this type of activity, but not a funeral.

Unfortunate week for the Hernandez's . . Denver jailer butt slapped, alleged Boulder breast grabber caught at funeral. How come the Boulder story is always weirder than the Denver story.

Hernandez appears to be the winner of the bizarre news this week. What a POS!

hdfresh, you name the time and place and I'll be there.

Beyond weird, from more than one source here.

Boulder. Typical liberal lunatic-land.

All the stories that come from Boulder have a certain degree of weirdness in them. But this one is a 10 on the bizarre-o-meter.

hdfresh, have you lost your marbles? There's "always a time and place" for a 31 year old man to grope a teenager, sexually harass another woman and commit 1st degree burglary?
I've seen some of your posts before, and they are typically rational, so I've got to believe your words just came out wrong here.

What a sick and twisted puppy.Maybe he got the idea from the wedding crashers.I mean what kind of weirdo does this kind of thing. He needs to go and have his brain rewired to something somewhat remotely normal.Hope he gets a little counseling and some elctro shock theraphy to his genital region.

I notice the description of the "memorial service/memorial gathering" was kind of vague in this story. Woman's life being celebrated at midnight? Mother didn't recognize the guy but thought nothing of it because other people came that she didn't know too?

Sounds a little more like a party than a funeral. Not to excuse Mr. Groper-porno-picture, but this story seems a little contrived.

Why doesn't the RMN state whether Hernandez is or is not here legally? Right... That wouldn't serve their left wing spin machine.

Posted by wow on April 4, 2008 at 11:40 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Why is it assumed that he may not be a citizen?
Is it because he groped a minor?
Is it because he showed a grieving mother porn?
We all know that a citizen wouldn't dare behave in such an unseemly way, so naturally he must be an illegal.
I'm sure the assumption has nothing to do with his Hispanic name.
Shame on RMN for exercising such gross neglect in thier investigative technique.

Posted by Logical on April 4, 2008 at 12:03 p.m. (Suggest removal)

wow,

Why castigate the Rocky for their technique? They didn't say anyting about status, as it is irrelevant. Bloggers brought it up. Disparage accordingly.

Citizen or alien, his actions are not acceptable.

'twas sarcasm on wow's part. I am a fellow lover of sarcasm and satire. You guys agree.

"Why doesn't the RMN state whether Hernandez is or is not here legally? Right... That wouldn't serve their left wing spin machine."

really clark? a newspaper likely wouldn't note it because the guy is probably a citizen of the united states. That's usually how it works, i mean they don't need to note who is a legal resident, only when they aren't.

left wing spin machine? really? how about your obviously bigoted blinders you chose to filter the media through.

you know, people can have hispanic surnames and be americans, right? or are you that blindly racist and stupid?

What a sick and twisted individual. Hernandez must be either be high on crack/meth or just mentally retarded. What kind of monster does this kind of crap?!

He gotta be drunk.

"Hernandez is lucky they're not a holding a memorial service for him right now."

damn straight. i do love how they obviously beat the snot out of the guy and not a single mourner was charged (at least, not according to the story). which leads me to belive that the boulder cops have some sense of what's truly right and not just what is pc.

i can see the back and forth between this POS and the boulder pd officer:

"i want to press charges on them. look at me, they beat me up.

"
"really? well too bad. you deserved that."

The DenverB,

Tisk tisk tisk, who are you to lecture anyone on being discriminatory?? Wasn't it just last week that you were condemning Texans as a whole?? Does the term glass house mean anything to you?

I just knew that it have a hispanic name attached to this crime and a illegall alien to boot. Yea we need more of them.

Hey rickg19611!

How does "typical liberal lunatic-land" have to do anything with the story? Although it is most certainly a bizarre and sickening story, these types of things happen in many communities, big and small, across this country. They cut across many demographics, races, political parties, income levels, etc.

You could use the example of the two church shootings last year. Someone could say "typical ultra-religious nutjob". But spree killing shootings happen in many cities, to all types of people, to all races, income levels, etc. It can't be limited with simple statements or be stereotyped with something as simple as "these kind" of people or "that kind" of community.

What ever happened to just plain "weird" and "sicko"?

rickg19611 - Don't let your preplanned prejudice get in the way of the truth.

As a related sidenote, Boulder is one of safest mid-sized cities in the nation. And Denver for a decent sized is much safer than most cities in the nation.

Do some of you not know how to read? It was a memorial not a funeral. A memorial is where you appreciate the lives of those who have deceased that you were close to. This is often done on Memorial Day but many have a memorial gathering on the date the person passed away much like a Birthday so I guess you can call this a Deathday. It is meant to be a positive celebration and there is no rule against having a beer or two while visiting with friends and family during the event.

Posted by Nimrod on April 7, 2008 at 3:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Is it just me, or did anyone else wonder if the pornographic picture was OF the deceased woman??

I don't mean to suggest anything, but I just wondered that as I read the story. He was apparently a neighbor, so perhaps there was something going on between them.

Pithy, happymike, pithy.....

Posted by bloit65 on April 7, 2008 at 11:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Memorial gathering--at 12:10 a.m.? Sure.

Anyone hear of a wake which can go on 24 hours or more? And be, in fact, quite a party?

Parents often don't know friends and coworkers who attend funerals, viewings and wakes of their deceased children. Nothing unusual about that. There were probably other folks there the mother did not know.
