Chalk one up for the anti-mining crowd in Crested Butte.
Kobex Resources, which has been working for several years to start a molybdenum mine on Mount Emmons overlooking the ski town, announced that it was pulling out of the proposed Lucky Jack Mine.
Kobex and its partner, U.S. Energy Corp., announced Monday the deal was off.
"The decision was made reluctantly since the Lucky Jack molybdenite property is still considered to be one of the best undeveloped primary molybdenum deposits in the world," stated Kobex's news release.
Proposed national legislation to revise mining laws and state legislation that would give more power over mining to local governments helped prompt the decision, the news release stated.
Bob Salter of High Country Citizens Alliance, which formed 31 years ago to fight the mine, said local opposition also was a factor.
