DIA parking to be audited

Denver Auditor Dennis Gallagher said today his office would review revenues at a parking lot at Denver International Airport operated by a contractor.
"When I was shown e-mails and other documents indicating that parking fees were apparently not being deposited with DIA or reported, I was extremely distressed and immediately ordered an audit," Gallagher said in a press release.
The audit will focus on cash collections at the Mt. Elbert lot which is operated by AMPCO, a private contractor.
The auditor criticized DIA officials for not contacting his office about a problem Gallagher said airport officials and AMPCO have known about for months.
"They clearly should have notified us and we could have launched our audit much earlier. Moreover, we have yet to hear from them regarding this issue despite our appropriate role in ensuring that proper internal controls are in place to prevent this sort of problem and uncover any wrongdoing," Gallagher said.
