JOHNSTOWN Zoe Garcia loved jumping rope, being with her relatives and making those around her happy, family and friends said Saturday.
More than 100 friends and family gathered at a church in snow-covered fields to remember the 7-year-old girl who died Dec. 6.
No mention was made of her stepsister Heather Trujillo, 16, and Trujillo's boyfriend, Lamar Roberts, 17, who were accused of beating and kicking Zoe while imitating the video game "Mortal Kombat."
Instead, mourners shared memories of Zoe.
Her father wore a shirt with words of love written over his heart. "In loving memory of our beloved," the shirt read. "Zoe Savannah Garcia."
"She was just a happy, beautiful girl, and we're going to miss her so much. But we're all lucky because we got to know her," said her aunt Erika Hoffman.

It is extremely sad that this child had to pay her life for the poor choices her mother has made through out her own life. The mother should be held accountable for this cold hearted senseless cowardly act along with the two juveniles. Crying in front of the camera should not allow her a free pass on this.

TO NOTYOUR.... HOW IN ALL THE 7 YEARS THAT THEY EVER THOUGHT THEIR 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WOULD COMMIT SUCH AN ACT ON HER SISTER WHILE IN SO MANY TIMES THEY WERE LEFT ALONE WITH EACH OTHER SO I DONT BLAME THE MOM, I HAVE TO LAY THE BLAME AT THE FEET OF THE TWO TEENAGERS WHERE IT BELONG, I KNOW MOM HAVE LEFT THE CHILD IN THE CARE OF HER SISTER AND NOTHING LIKE THIS EVER HAPPEN NOR TO ANY ASPECT. SO WHAT WENT WRONG......GOOD QUESTION AND WHY......ONLY THOSE 2 CAN ANSWERE THAT QUESTION, MAYBE IT WILL COME OUT IN COURT, SO EASE OFF OF MOM, I REALLY DONT THINK SHE EVER SAW THIS COMING, I JUST HOPE THE FAMILY CAN SURVIVE THIS, IN A LOT OF KIDS THE STEPT KIDS GET THE BRUNT OF DISCORD BEING THEY ARE NOT OF THE SAME 2 PARENTS, IT COULD HAVE BEEN ANYTHING, NOT MAKING EXCUSES FOR WHAT HAPPEN BUT IN MY OPINION I THINK BOTH NEED TO BE HUNG OUT TO DRY FOR LIFE AND NEVER WALK AMONG SOCIETY AGAIN, IF THEY KILLED ONCE THEN THEY COULD KILL AGAIN AND THE NEXT TIME MAY BE A LITTLE EASIER THAN THE FRIST SO DONT LET THEM HARM ANYONE ELSE......LOCK THEM AWAY,

A mother who allows a 16 year old daughter have a live-in boyfriend is out of her mind. That's one thing. The 16 year old has a different father, evidently he is out of the picture.Social Services has been called numerous times on the mother. No response. the father of the 7 year old knew something was wrong in that house with Zoe and was trying to get custody and had also called Social Sevices from California. How would he know something was wrong? He probably talked to Zoe regularly. The mother also has twims that are 3 years old. Where is that father. No mention was made of any parent being in the house except the mother. How did the boyfriend get alcohol? Was it kept in the house? The mother admitted she saw signs the teens where way too obsessed with the game Mortal Combat, but did nothing.Where was she the night her daughter died? This mother is no real mother she is a breeder.Allowing a 16 year old to have a live-in boyfriend is an alarm so loud I'm surprised Social services didn't do anything. Since when and under ANY CURCUMSTANCES is it okay for a mother to allow a 16 year old to have a live-in boyfriend? How is it the mother saw many signs of their obsession with this game and not take action? How could she leave her children with two obsessed teens?
Zoe is the only one who didn't make it out alive of this horrible situation in this home. Once again Social Services didn't do their job. The mother didn't do her job and we have another dead child. The mother should be charged with at least neglect, contributing to the deliquency of 2 minors and anything else on the books. The teens killed Zoe and will have to pay for their horrible crime. Make no mistake the mother set things in motion,by creating an atmosphere of neglect and abuse of her children. No sympathy for the mother at all.If you want to call her a mother.

Vmom,
So what if the 16 yr old had a live in boyfriend. My brother was 16 and his 14yr old girlfriend lived with my brother and our parents. Lots of kids have dysfunctional families and the best way out is to find another family to live with. In the case of my brothers gf, her dad was deceased, her step dad a drug dealer, and her mother in prison. Would it have been ok to you if she lived with the step dad??
As for beating up little sis cuz its fun, thats not ok. I can't comment about Social Services because I dunoo what they knew or when they knew it.

I'm w/ Vudumom on this one. There are way too many red flags in this case, and now a 7 year old is dead.
I've wondered the same thing, where did the LQ come from, why were these 2 living together, and where is the adult supervision?
I think PD needs to look and see if they have a case against mom. She sould loose custody of ALL of her kids, and maybe think about tying her tubes.
