Qwest Communications has selected Draftfcb of Chicago to handle its consumer advertising, replacing longtime agency McClain Finlon Advertising of Denver.

Kim Whitehead, Qwest's new vice president of marketing, said Draftfcb was selected after an extensive account review and that the transition will be completed by spring.

The Denver telco also announced a new board director Friday: Jan L. Murley, a consultant with the private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

Both developments reflect new Qwest CEO Ed Mueller's consumer focus. Mueller will detail the company's strategic plan Monday.
