Mammoth sign Nash, Sims to new contracts
Transition player Josh Sims has signed a three-year deal to stay with the National Lacrosse League's Colorado Mammoth and goaltender Gee Nash has signed a one-year contract.
The Mammoth also traded forward Matt Taylor to the Toronto Rock for a fourth-round entry draft pick.
Taylor compiled four goals and four assists in four games last season for Colorado.
Sims reigns as the franchise's all-time leader in loose balls with 548. He scored 19 goals last season. Nash tied for second in wins (nine) last season among NLL goalies and ranked third in save percentage (.779).
RAKHSHANI HONORED University of Denver sophomore forward Rhett Rakhshani was named the national player of the week by Inside College Hockey and the offensive player of the week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Rakhshani scored four goals in a two-game sweep against St. Cloud State.

* DU senior goalie Peter Mannino was named one of 20 candidates in men's hockey for the Senior CLASS Award, presented for excellence in athletics, academics and community service.
University of Colorado senior forward Jackie McFarland was named one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award in women's basketball.
* Women's basketball guard Bianca Smith and men's basketball guard Marcus Hall were named the athletes of the week at CU.
* Former Heritage High School athlete Alex Hooker was named a high school All-American in girls soccer by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
She now plays women's soccer at the University of Georgia.
PEEK PEAKS Pueblo resident Josh Peek and Del Rio, Texas, cowboy Houston Hutto teamed to win the tie-down roping round Tuesday night at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.
Peek ranks sixth after six rounds in the event and ranks fourth in steer wrestling after six rounds.
Briggsdale cowboy Royce Ford dropped to fourth place for the week in bareback riding after finishing 15th Tuesday.
PACEV FINISHES THIRD Littleton runner Tania Pacev finished third in a field of about 235 runners Saturday in the women's 50-kilometer race at the Trail World Challenge in Huntsville, Texas, clocking in at 4 hours, 19 minutes, 55 seconds.
