Rage, Eagles claim CHL home victories

Scott Wray's shootout goal lifted the Central Hockey League's Rocky Mountain Rage (14-2-2) to a 5-4 win against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (10-6-3) on Friday night at the Broomfield Event Center.

Elsewhere in the CHL:

* Greg Pankewicz scored two goals to power the Colorado Eagles (10-6-3) to a 5-3 victory against the Wichita Thunder (4-12) at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.

14ERS CRUISE Elton Brown scored 18 points to help spark the NBA Development League Colorado 14ers (4-2) to a 105-70 win against the host Albuquerque Thunderbirds (2-3).

Julian Sensley added 15 points for Colorado, and teammates Kaniel Dickens and Billy Thomas each recorded 13 points.

BACHMAN HONORED Colorado College freshman goaltender Richard Bachman was named National Rookie of the Month for November by the Hockey Commissioners' Association.

The Highlands Ranch resident posted a 6-1 mark with a 1.72 goals-against average for the Tigers in seven starts during November, ultimately posting a .944 saves percentage.

In other honors:

* CC forward Bill Sweatt has been named to the U.S. national junior team for the upcoming world junior hockey championships in the Czech Republic.

Sweatt played with the U.S. team that earned the bronze medal at the junior championships last year.

* University of Georgia freshman Mark Dylla, a Heritage High School graduate, was named men's swimmer of the week by the Southeastern Conference.

* Air Force junior Kristina Stewart was named most valuable player of the Falcons volleyball team, as voted by her teammates.

Air Force freshman Nichole Stilwell, a Woodland Park High School graduate, and Caroline Kurtz shared the top rookie awards in the team's year-end awards.

Falcons sophomore Jocelyn Booker was named the most improved player.

ROADRUNNERS SIGN FOUR Berthoud High School guard Jasmine Cervantes, Horizon High School forward Lacey Herz, Silver Creek High School center Jessie Jones and Glenwood Springs High School guard Sharaya Selsor have signed national letters of intent to play women's basketball at Metro State.

They are the first class of recruits signed by Roadrunners coach Linda Lappe, who is a former University of Colorado athlete.

In other signings:

* Conifer High School outside hitter Emily Greenhalgh has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Metro State, as did University High School athlete Adrienne Matthews, Cherokee Trail High School athlete Bri Morley and Eaglecrest High School graduate Darcy Schwartzman.

Chaska, Minn., product Anna Mapes, who last played two years for Mississippi in the mid- 1990s, also signed to compete for Metro State.

* Regis High School athlete Kristin Schmid and Dakota Ridge High School athlete Emily Kuhr have signed national letters of intent to compete for the women's swimming team at the University of Denver, and Ralston Valley athlete Clay Myers signed to swim for the men's team.

Lisa Ginder (Southlake, Texas), Michelle Needham (Portland, Ore.), Jackie Leung (Gresham, Ore.), Sara Ladner (Kansas City, Mo.) and Jay Giddens (Carlsbad, Calif.) also signed to swim for DU.

* Galway, Ireland, resident Sarah Faller has signed a national letter of intent to attend DU and compete in women's golf.
