A look at some of the potential deals the Rockies have going at the winter meetings:

--The Rockies offered INF Clint Barmes to Houston for 2B Chris Burke, who has been pushed aside by the Astros signing free agent Kazuo Matsui.

--Larry Reynolds, agent for pitcher LaTroy Hawkins, will meet with the Rockies to see if the Rockies will reconsider giving Hawkins a multi-year offer. Reynolds is having conversations with several teams, including Detroit, but has indicated he would like to return to the Rockies if they will go past a one-year guarantee.

--With the loss of Matsui, the Rockies have been a popular target for the agents of out-of-work second baseman. The agent for Tadahito Iguchi has been in touch with O’Dowd along with representatives of Mark Loretta and Marcus Giles, but Philadelphia GM Pat Gillick, who has interest in Iguchi as a third baseman, said he was told, ``apparently Iguchi doesn’t want to go to Colorado.’’

Okay let me get this straight. The Astros have a second baseman named Chris Burke. They evidently do not think highly of him as they agressively pursue Kazuo Matsui.

The Rockies had a second baseman named Kazuo Matsui. Matsui provided leadership, both defensively and offensively, and the Rockies finished the season with the best fielding average in history, and swept through the end of September and the first two rounds of the playoffs to get to the World Series.

Matsui in 2007 had a .288 average with 37 RBI, and 32 stolen bases.

Burke in 2007 had a .229 average with 28 RBI, and 09 stolen bases.

Matsui fielded his position with a .992 average and committed 4 errors in 102 games.

Burke fielded his position with a .979 average and committed 3 errors in 58 games.

Now the Rockies failed to resign Matsui and are trying to trade for Burke?
